During the summer, you may spend most of your time outdoors — lounging by the pool, taking in an ocean view or hanging out with family and friends in your front or backyard. Either way, you will be under the hot sun for hours, so it’s vital you take steps to help your body cool down. We all know drinking water is one of the best ways to hydrate your body. But did you know there are several food and snack ideas that will keep you refreshed and rejuvenated? Here are some of our favorites! Make a fruit-filled smoothie. One of the best summer treats is a smoothie. Not only will you consume the necessary nutrients, but it’s also a great snack to cool off with. To embrace the summer festivities, you can make a tropical smoothie using dragon fruit, passion fruit, pineapple, papaya and other tropical fruits! Create an ice cream alternative: banana ‘nice cream.’ Sometimes, ice cream is the perfect way to cool down and satisfy your sweet tooth. However, ice cream is high in sugar and other ingredients that are not good for you. Instead, you can create your own “nice cream” by freezing a banana (or any fruit you prefer). Once frozen, place the fruit in a food processor or blender, and blend until the fruit has a soft-serve consistency. Add 1/4 cup of milk, water, or yogurt if you have trouble softening the frozen fruit. From there, add the “nice cream” to a container and place it in the freezer for several hours. Then, you’re ready to serve! Need something crunchy? Try cucumber and hummus! Have you heard the saying, “Cool as a cucumber”? Well, there’s a reason that phrase exists! Cucumbers instantly hydrate the body and reduce body heat. You can eat cucumbers alone, in a salad or with a delicious side — hummus! To begin, cut your cucumber into 1/4-inch slices. You can make hummus or purchase the product at your local grocery store. Finally, you can crunch and dip away on this refreshing and nutritious snack.
