TONI KAUTZ DONOR FAMILY AND IDN VOLUNTEER

“Back in 2015, I was looking to volunteer for an organization that did great things for the community and was happy I found Iowa Donor Network. Although I didn’t have any ties to organ donation personally, I was welcomed on my first day of volunteer orientation with open arms and kindness. You can usually find me volunteering in the office helping out with compiling donor bracelets, medallions, entering survey information from community educations or putting manuals together. Since becoming a volunteer, I have been an advocate to family and friends about donation and have helped get them signed up to be a donor. In 2019, donation did touch my life personally when my Mom passed away. She thought she was too old to donate, but she would be so proud to know she was able to donate her corneas. My Mom was a woman of great faith who found joy in everything she did. I miss so much about her; all the laughter we shared, the songs she used to sing, the way she told a joke, and how she wouldn’t let you leave her house until you played a game of cards with her.

Every time I volunteer in the office, my spirits are lifted knowing that although I’m not volunteering on the frontlines, I know what I do helps in some way with the mission of Iowa Donor Network.”
