HATS AND HEADWEAR If spring/summer 2026 prioritises authenticity, optimism, and personal expression, styles that celebrate individual personality and the pure joy of dressing, then they are the very same principles that inspire millinery. For her wedding to actor Callum Turner in June, Dua Lipa chose a stunning wide-brimmed white hat by Stephen Jones, an inspiration we are sure to see during the racing season. “I’m already seeing lots of increase in brims, I’m making them, and they’re selling straight away,” says Melbourne-based milliner Jill Humphries. “People are already purchasing for this year’s spring carnival because they want specific looks. I think Dua Lipa’s hat translates really well for racewear trends, especially given that she wore all white. I think we’re going to see a lot of that, one block colour, and also lots of bright colours.” Humphries also notes the whimsy at Chanel and Dior that is affecting customers. “There are a lot of people wanting bead work, diamantes. I’m at the Camberwell market every week buying antique brooches and things and
incorporating them into the headwear! People seem to be really loving all the textural elements and dimensions that are coming through in the couture, and it’s translating into our everyday life.” Humphries believes that Dior’s influence will be strong in accessories. “The elements Anderson has put into the satin shoes, the folded roses, the florals, the incredible corsages. I’ve been doing the same thing with my pill boxes and in my pork pies hats. I think that is what everyone is going for. They just want to be back in that beautiful zone.”
