Ali Grigg Prize Old Boy Ali Grigg is a generous philanthropist and supporter of Christ’s College, and one of the early drivers of Xero, the global accounting software company. A lifelong believer in the power of education, Ali has supported – and contributed to – the development of the Christ’s College Diploma, year after year. The Ali Grigg Prize is awarded to the student who has achieved a Gold level of Academic Engagement and demonstrated a strong commitment to the ethos of Ngā Mihi Mātauranga in the Christ’s College Diploma. The recipient may not necessarily be the top academic student, but must have shown a growth mindset towards learning and a genuine commitment to achieving his personal best. For the first time, the 2025 prize has been awarded to two students, Alex Johnstone and Louis Sharr. Through the Christ’s College Diploma, students are encouraged to extend their learning beyond the classroom and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Students undertake service initiatives, environmental projects, cultural learning, and leadership opportunities that help develop a strong sense of global citizenship and responsibility. Alex Johnstone experienced this impact firsthand through his Diploma journey, which included extensive community service, tutoring younger students, environmental work, and volunteering with community organisations. Reflecting on the programme and the inspiration behind it, he shared: “The prize has had a positive impact not only in the College community, but in our local communities and further abroad too.” Louis Sharr also highlighted the opportunities created through Ali’s generosity. Through the Diploma, Louis contributed to environmental restoration projects, supported cultural initiatives, and engaged in leadership opportunities, both locally and internationally. As Louis reflected in his thanks to Ali: “Your award has opened up many opportunities and pathways for me.” Through Ali’s continued support of the Christ’s College Diploma and the Ali Grigg Diploma Prize, students are inspired to pursue meaningful service, leadership, and learning that extends far beyond the school gates.
