LABORATORY COURSES IN PSYCHOTHERAPY This series of courses is designed to effect a working integration of conceptual and experimental aspects of psychotherapy. Each course includes both classroom lectures and supervised counseling experience within the psychotherapy model followed in the course. PLB 605 BEHAVIOR THERAPY (3) The observation, assessment, and modification of human behavior using a variety of learning models. The strengths and limitations of behavioral psychology will be examined. Elective. Prerequisites: PSY 503 and PSY 690. PLB 613 COUNSELING THE ADOLESCENT (3) Techniques and problems in the treatment of adolescents. Special attention is fo­ cused on the implications of developmental processes of adolescence on treatment approaches. Elective. Prerequisites: PSY 602 and PSY 690. PLB 631 - PLB 632 PSYCHODYNAMIC THERAPY I (3) II (3) An in-depth study of the process of therapy giving special attention to the concepts of transference, countertransference, resistance, and interpretation. Elective . Prerequisites: PSY 602 and PSY 690, and permission of instructor. PLB 635 DIAGNOSIS AND REMEDIATION OF LEARNING DISABILITIES (3) Methods used by psychologists and school specialists in the diagnosis and remedia­ tion of learning problems. State laws relating to placement of children and youth in special programs for remedial procedures. Elective. Prerequisites: PSY 522, PSY 690, and concurrent enrollment in a school psychol­ ogy practicum. PLB 641 GROUP THERAPY (3) Varied theoretical and process models for group intervention are examined. Expe­ riential learning in the leader and client roles is incorporated in the course . Elective. Prerequisites: PSY 602 and PSY 690. PLB 642 PSYCHOTHERAPY WITH CHILDREN (3) The nature and treatment of common emotional and behavioral problems of child­

hood. Special attention is given to parent counseling. Elective. Prerequisites: PSY 503, PSY 507, PSY 602 and PSY 690. PLB 671 - PLB 672 MARITAL THERAPY AND COUNSELING I (3), II (3)

A study of the literature and practice of marital and family therapy with emphasis on diagnostic procedures and the application of specific therapeutic techniques to dysfunction within the marital dyad. Major consideration will be given in the second semester to premarriage, communication, divorce, and sexual dysfunction as as­ pects of marital therapy and counseling. Concurrent enrollment in a practicum of­ fering opportunities for experience with couples and/ or families is required. PLB 671 is prerequisite to PLB 672. Elective. 46
