Summer sunshine and blue skies provided a warm backdrop for the first day of the 2019 Vankleek Hill Fair as residents and visitors gathered on the sidewalks along Main Street, last Thursday evening, August 15, to watch the parade with horse-drawn wagons and other entries on their way to the fair grounds. The official opening ceremony of the fair followed for a weekend of fun. The Vankleek Hill Fire Department and the Demolition Derby participants also had features in the parade. —photo Gregg Chamberlain

There were plenty of classic fair games at the Vankleek Hill Fair last Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Many children and their parents got their coupons out and took advantage of all the games and prizes to be won. One of the weekend’s most popular events, drawing a very large audience, was the Pee-Wee Showmanship classes. Divided by age groups, starting with the youngest being the under three-year-olds, young future farmers showed off their cattle. —photo Alexia Marsillo
