BearCom, the firm that the United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) has contracted for the project, will make sure the new system works without any complications before the planned switchover takes place in September. Une ancienne employée du canton de Hawkesbury-Est fait face à plus d’une vingtaine d’accusations de fraude et d’autres infractions. Linda Rozon, 59 ans, aurait commis ces délits alors qu’elle était greffière-trésorière EF)BXLFTCVSZ&TU QPTUFRVFMMFBPDDVQÊ pendant de nombreuses années jusqu’à sa EÊNJTTJPOFOKVJO&MMFBEÊNJTTJPOOÊ alors qu’une vérification des finances de la municipalité avait cours sous la supervision de Deloitte, une firme d’examen financier et de comptabilité souvent utilisée par plusieurs municipalités de la région de Prescott-Russell. Le rapport a révélé qu’il manquait 53 000 $ dans les comptes financiers de la municipalité. L’argent a ensuite été remboursé au canton et aucune accusa- tion n’a été portée contre Mme Rozon à ce moment-là. Mme Rozon est maintenant accusée de 25 chefs d’accusation de fraude, de Yves St-Denis, ancien député d’Argen- teuil, a été déclaré coupable d’agres- sion sexuelle par la juge de la Cour du Québec, Michèle Toupin, le 15 aout, au Palais de justice de Saint-Jérôme. Selon la sentence rendue par la juge, Yves St-Denis a reçu une absolution conditionnelle et 50 heures de travaux communautaires. S’il a échappé à un casier judiciaire, il n’a pas le droit de posséder des armes à feu et figure désormais au registre des délinquants sexuels pour une durée de 20 ans. M. St-Denis aurait embrassé de force, la nuit dans son lit, l’ancienne conseillère municipale de Saint-Adolphe-d’Howard, Marjorie Bourbeau, alors que celle-ci dormait. Champlain Township has made signifi- cant progress in reducing its “carbon footprint” and council plans to make that footprint even smaller with the next stage of the municipality’s energy conservation plan. Township council approved a report and recommendations from administration on the next year’s plan for the five-year municipal energy conservation and demand manage- ment plan. The plan covers policy changes and facility upgrades during the period from 2014 to 2019, to reduce the amount of elec- tricity used for municipal operations and also contribute to greenhouse gas reduction as required provincial government regulations. “Since the plan was first developed in

Both have now moved to other pursuits following their June graduation. “It was a good season with them,” Fortin said. “I really enjoyed playing on the VCI team, it was a lot of fun. I’ve played with them (Allen and Lovitt) a long time. It’s going to be a big change not playing with them again.” But Fortin is looking ahead with eager- ness to a new season. It will be her last one too for VCI as she will be finishing her Grade 12 year. But she hopes to leave behind her a strong core trio of curlers ready to hold the women’s curling banner high at VCI for the next couple of years. Fortin has combined her VCI experience with some semi-competitive curling play an
RCMP league rink.“It was a good experi- ence playing with new people,” she said. “It really influenced my decision this year to keep on playing with a new competitive team.” For the high school curling season, besides finding two new rink mates and helping bring them up to speed on the ice, Fortin has her sights on VCI making as good an impression this season on the high school tournament schedule as last season. That includes trying for a shot at the provincials at least one more time. “We want to make it as far as possible as we can,” she said. “Going to OFSAA again would be fantastic. But our main goal is to find new people and maybe make it to the regionals.”
Another summer almost gone and another school year almost ready to begin, and Natasha Fortin already has her mind on the next high school curl- ing season. “We’re going to start searching early in the school year for new players,” Fortin said, during an interview earlier in the season. “So we can start training with them as soon as possible.” Fortin and Evy Cooley are the remaining half of Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute’s champion women’s high school curling rink. Senior members Caitlin Allen and Émilie Lovitt both finished their final season with the VCI rink as part of their
