Sens sink Voyageurs in AAA finals

a 5-1 win, March 17, to wrap up the third and final round at four games to one in the Sens’ favour. Voyageurs Jake D’Alessandro prevented the Sens from skunking Rockland on the scoreboard with a third-period power-play. Voyageurs Coach Alain Raymond later des- cribed the game as well within Rockland’s chances of winning. «It was still 2-0 after the first period,» Raymond said during a phone interview, «and we were still in it (the zone).» Last year the CIHA Voyageurs got tapped out of the OEMHL championship playoffs during the semi-finals. This year the team advanced into the finals which, Raymond indicated, shows how far the teamhas pro- gressed and improved in strength and skills between the two seasons. «It was an excellent playoff series,» Ray- mond said, adding that the Voyageurs had been in playoff mode for the past six weeks
since mid-February. «We played 16 playoff games in total, so it was all good experience.» During the first round of the AAA series championships, Rockland beat the Ottawa 67s in five games then moved on to take down number-two ranked Cornwall in a hard-fought six-game second-round set. «All those games were very close,» Ray- mond said. «I am really proud of these guys. I think we’ve had great leadership and we were consistent (in play) through the sea- son. We won a lot of one-on-one battles, and our speed was a real help. It was a very good year.» The Voyageurs Major Midget team is now on spring break for a week from the Cana- dian International Hockey Academy (CIHA). The players return after the March 28 wee- kend for regular classes and skills training, along with preparation for the upcoming Montréal Meltdown invitational tournament in May.

A pair of road games in the series is scheduled for Wednesday and Friday nights in Embrun with the Nats back home Saturday evening, March 28, at the Clarence-Rockland Arena for the fourth game.
