Setting New Goals Into Action for 2023 THE NEW YEAR IS UPON US

As we relish the holiday season and prepare to ring in the New Year, it’s time to focus on planning and goal-setting — both the ones you set for 2022 and your new aspirations for 2023! While we only have a few short weeks left in December, it’s time to revisit your written list of 2022 goals and ask yourself some questions. What did you commit to doing in 2022? What did you accomplish? And what do you still have left to do? If, for instance, your goal was to lose 20 pounds and you didn’t quite hit the mark, don’t be frustrated — just start! And, if you have some goals that are partially completed, now is the time to come up with a plan to complete them by the end of the year! Sure, it’s only a few weeks, but you’ll be amazed what you can accomplish in a short period of time. After we ring in 2023, it’s not only time to celebrate the things you did accomplish, but to be a bit hard on yourself for any aspirations that are still outstanding. This is one way to hold yourself accountable. And, speaking of accountability, when you set your new goals in motion, create rewards and consequences to accompany them. As an example, if you accomplish a goal of reducing to a certain weight or going to the gym four times a week for an entire month, allow yourself to have a cheat day. And, on the other side of

things, If you didn’t do such a great job, maybe have a consequence in place in which you must skip your weekly cheat meal for that week. On the brink of a fresh year, now is the time to hit the reset button. Here are some important tips to keep in mind when setting up your 2023 goals. 1. Write your goals down. 2. Don’t have too many of them. 3. Keep your list of goals in front of you at all times throughout the year. 4. Make sure they are “SMAC certified.” (SMAC: S–Your goal should be specific and detailed; M–Goals should be measurable so you know what “done” and “accomplished” looks like; A–Be sure that your goals are achievable and within reach; C–Ensure that your goals are compatible with each other, your thought process, and who you are as a person.)

4. Spiritual goals — Maybe you want to attend a weekly service, read the Bible, or meditate consistently. 5. Personal Achievement goals — Possibly you aspire to start and complete a home project or want to find a way to give back or volunteer. No matter what goals you choose for 2023, the key is to set up a plan for success and have your goals written down. You can even break them down into smaller goals on a weekly or monthly basis. I recommend setting your goals up as a checklist — we are more inclined to want to check things off and feel that sense of accomplishment. Good luck with completing your 2022 goals, and I wish you even better luck with the new goals you will set for 2023!

When I set up my goals, I tend to break them into five categories:

1. Business goals — Are you planning to ask for a promotion or will you be choosing your long-awaited retirement date? 2. Family goals — Maybe you’re planning a family vacation or a special treat for a family member or spouse. 3. Physical goals — These can be health and exercise goals or aspirations to run a half-marathon or a 10K race.

Happy holidays!

Boost Your Health While Helping the Environment Have You Heard of Plogging?

with others! Round up a group of friends, family, or coworkers and join the initiative together. If you’re up for it, you can even make it a contest! Add in different exercises. Plogging doesn’t only have to incorporate jogging — while gathering trash; you can do squats, burpees, lunges, or even pushups. Switch up arms. While plogging, holding the garbage bag in the same hand can become uncomfortable, especially as that bag gets heavier! Be sure to change which arm holds it from time to time! Incorporate sprints. If jogging becomes too simple for you, try sprinting between trash to intensify the activity. Plogging is a great way to reduce pollution while getting in your workout! Local parks, neighborhoods, and common areas are a great place to start!

According to Our World in Data, the world manufactures more than 270 million tons of plastic annually. About 8 million tons of this plastic winds up in the ocean — that’s 3%! Plogging, a fad that originated in Sweden to help minimize pollution, is taking the world by storm. Essentially, you jog and pick up litter at the same time! Some cardio and a giant clean-up effort? It’s a great way to enjoy the cool winter temperatures while

doing something good for the environment! Plogging can be done with others, at any time, and pretty much anywhere litter or trash exists. It’s a win-win! The origin of the word “plogging,” according to the Farmer’s Almanac, comes from a combination of jogging and the Swedish word for “pick up,” which is “plocka upp.” All you need is a pair of running shoes, a trash bag, stamina, some free time, and water to stay hydrated! If you’re interested in

taking up the hobby or plogging every now and then to make a difference in our environment, here are some tips to keep the activity fun and interesting! Head out in groups. Everything is more fun

Because it’s becoming more difficult for criminals to hack bank accounts, many are homing in on retirement accounts instead. Do not open suspicious emails

website. So, if you receive an email from a sender claiming to be the IRS asking you to click on a link or provide personal information, do not click on it or provide your information! While the internet is an extremely useful tool, especially for researching holiday recipes and purchasing gifts, it comes with a giant risk when it comes to financial accounts and personal information — it’s important to protect your accounts from cyberattacks as well as market downturns. If you’d like to discuss any retirement concerns or have questions about your 401(k), give us a call today!

As a general rule of thumb, if you receive a strange email from someone claiming to be your 401(k) provider, and something just doesn’t look right, don’t open it. On that note, also avoid clicking on or interacting with pop-up windows, attachments, and links from any sender that you do not recognize. These strange links and emails may be phishing attempts from criminals. Ignore emails from the IRS. The IRS does not communicate via email or text message, as communicated on their

Let’s take a look at three ways to ensure that your retirement accounts stay safe! Keep a watchful eye on your 401(k). Understandably, your retirement account may be something that you rarely check. Impress the Guests With These Holiday Hosting Tips

The holidays are rapidly approaching, and soon, we’ll share laughs while enjoying the festivities with our loved ones. Before the celebrations begin, you must prepare your home for visitors, especially if they stay overnight. It can be stressful whether it’s your in-laws, best friends, or distant cousins coming to stay with you. You want to leave a good impression, but how do you ensure everyone’s needs are met, including yours? Here are three tips for setting yourself up for a successful holiday, regardless of who stays with you. Stock up on your guests’ favorites. Have you ever stayed with someone who didn’t have extra food for their guests? Don’t put your guests in this situation. Load up your pantry, refrigerator, and cupboards with your guests’ favorite foods and drinks. If you

don’t know what they are, ask ahead of their visit! Your guests will appreciate your conscientious gesture and have a much more enjoyable time if they can eat their favorites while visiting.

Prepare a guest room. If your guests are staying with you, you need to prepare somewhere for them to sleep. Make sure you make up the bed, have plenty of pillows and blankets on hand, and provide adequate closet space for their clothes. Even if they aren’t staying in a traditional bedroom, their sleeping area should still be ready when they arrive. Clear off a table for them to use as a nightstand and put sheets on the couch or mattress where they’ll sleep.

Use real dishes. When we have company over for a meal, especially a large gathering, it’s usually easier to use plastic or paper options — saves on cleanup, too! The holidays are not necessarily the time for this shortcut. Break out the fine china if you have it, or use regular dishes for your guests. It’s okay for the kids to have paper plates, but if you want to make a good impression on visiting adults, nicer dishes will dress up the table setting and meal.
