USA MEN’S PAN AMERICAN GAMES TEAM 2019 RESULTS
LIMA, PERU • JULY 31-AUG. 5, 2019
The U.S. (3-2) men saved their best for last at the Pan American Games, rallying from a 5-point deficit going into the fourth quarter and defeating Dominican Republic (2-3) 92-83 in the bronze medal game at Dibos Colisuem in Lima, Peru. The squad of BIG EAST standouts outscored its opponent 32-18 in the final frame. Team USA, by far the youngest team in the field, finished Pan American Games play with a 3-2 record while playing five games in five days under the leadership of head coach Ed Cooley (Providence). Going into the semifinals, the USA had no answers defensively against a veteran Argentina squad and lost 114-75. Argentina went on to win the gold medal. The U.S. led by 10 points with eight minutes to play but could not hold on and dropped an 87-84 decision to Puerto Rico in the final game of Pool play. The USA completed Pool A competition with a 2-1 record. The U.S. men advanced to the medal round with a hard fought 70-53 victory over Venezuela, a team considered to be one of the favorites in the tournament. Myles Powell (Seton Hall) scored a game-high 30 points. The U.S. men put on an offensive show in their Pan American Games debut and recorded a 119-84 victory over Virgin Islands. The USA sped to a 14-5 lead and was never threatened throughout the contest. The Pan American Games is a multi-sport event featuring teams from North, South and Central American and the Caribbean, which is orga- nized by the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) and played every four years in the year preceding the Olympics.

USA MEN’S PAN AMERICAN GAMES TEAM 2015 RESULTS
TORONTO, CANADA • JULY 21-25, 2015
The USA, comprised of seven collegians and five professional players, finished 3-2 and won the bronze medal marking the 13th time in 17 Pan American Games that the American men medaled. Under the guidance of Gonzaga University head coach Mark Few, the U.S. downed Venezuela 85-62 to open. Trailing 41-33 at halftime, it was the veteran players who help the Americans rally. Damien Wilkins led the offense with a game-high 21 points, while also adding 10 rebounds, including seven offensive boards. Anthony Randolph contributed 16 points and six rebounds and Bobby Brown 12 points in the second half. On a night when six USA players combined to make 11 3-pointers, it was a 20-0 run midway through the second quarter that powered the U.S. to a 102-70 rout of Puerto Rico. All 12 team members scored and recorded at least one rebound, led by 16 points from Brown. In the final preliminary round game, Brazil’s offensive rebounding and 3-point accuracy doomed the USA with an 83-93 loss. Keith Langford paced the USA scoring with 17 points. Brazil made 15-of-26 3-point attempts in the game and outrebounded the USA 32-28. The USA-Canada semifinal game was everything the partisan, capacity crowd and ESPN2 audience could hope for. With Canada leading 68-67 in the third period, Denzel Valentine drained three straight 3s over 57 seconds to push the Americans ahead 76-71 and the U.S. entered the fourth period owning an 80-74 advantage. Canada’s Jamal Murray made a deep 3 with 36 seconds left to even the score at 97 and push the game into overtime. Anthony Bennett scored Canada’s first five points in OT to push his squad ahead 102-97, but behind two points from Kaleb Tarczewski and four more from Ron Baker, the USA surged back in front 103-102 with 2:05 left. A 3 from Randolph cushioned the USA lead to 106-104 with 1:45 remaining, but Murray, who finished with 31 points, made back-to-back 3s giving Canada an 110-106 lead with 55.9 seconds remaining. Following a free throw by Canada, Brown scored for the USA to reduce the lead to three, 111-108. Canada missed a deep 3 attempt and with 7.1 seconds to play in OT, and following a USA timeout, the U.S. inbounded the ball from the sidelines to Brown in the corner and his 3 missed the mark giving Canada the win. Brown scored 25 points and dished out a game-best seven assists. Trailing by 21, 63-42, with 4:29 left in the third quarter, the U.S. slowly turned momentum around and outscored Dominican Republic 45-19 over the final 14:29 of the game to earn a 87-82 win and capture the bronze medal. Brown led the USA charge with 19 points.

USA MEN’S PAN AMERICAN GAMES TEAM 2011 RESULTS
GUADALAJARA, MEXICO • OCTOBER 26-30, 2011
With the 2011 Pan American Games men’s basketball competition being held Oct. 26-30, USA Basketball fielded a team that featured players and coaches from the NBA D League. While a frigid shooting day versus host Mexico in the semifinals eliminated the Americans from the gold medal hunt, the U.S. persevered to earn its first Pan American Games medal since 1999 when it defeated the Dominican Republic 94-92 for the bronze medal. Directed by Tulsa 66ers coach Nate Tibbetts, the U.S. was led by Lance Thomas’ double-double of 15 points and 16 rebounds, but it was Marcus Lewis’ two blocks in the game’s final 12 seconds that earned the USA a 77-76 victory over the Dominican Republic in the opening game. The USA mounted a miraculous comeback to record an impressive 88-77 win over Brazil. Behind Blake Ahearn’s 21 points and Justin Dentmon’s 16, the USA stormed back from 17 points down midway in the third quarter to claim the win. Assured of Group B’s No. 1 seed for the medal round, after making the plays needed in the closing minutes to win their first two games, the USA fell 82-80 to Uruguay in its final preliminary round game. Jerome Dyson paced the U.S. with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor and 4-of-6 from 3-point. Carrying Group B’s No. 1 seed into the medal round semifinals, there couldn’t have been a worse time for a bad shooting game. Making just 32.7% (18-53 FG) of its shots and sinking only 23.5% from 3, the USA fell 71-55 to Mexico, who was spurred on to the win by a raucous crowd. Leo Lyons finished as the USA’s leading scorer with 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-3 3FG). Behind a balanced scoring effort that saw all 12 USA players score, including five in double digits, the USA fought to a well-earned bronze medal victory over Dominican Republic. In an game that saw the teams combine to score 186 points, the outcome was decided by a defen- sive stop by the Americans in the final seconds. Clinging to a 94-92 lead, the USA’s Thomas defended the Dominican’s 3-point attempt that missed its mark and the USA had its narrow win. The offensive showing was led by Thomas, who finished with 14 points. Gregory Stiemsma tied a USA single game record for blocked shots with four and added six points and two rebounds in 13 minutes of action.
