Scope
Compliance of RELAY AAD devices and Walkie-Talkies 2-way radios
POLICY: Relay devices should be considered as a low-cost alternative to cell phones for communication between hotel associates. Before purchasing, make sure the devices meet all brand requirements and are in compliance with local laws. Many hotels will still need a small number of cell phones so that group guests have a way to reach hotel staff. Relay devices can be used for group communications between departments and will be customized by the Chief Engineer. For a visual of how to use Relay for communications, click here or see below:
First and foremost, AAD devices should remain programmed as such. Although they are capable of being programmed as both an AAD device and a two-way radio, we recommend only having the dual function available for a housekeeping supervisor position as this individual may be working independently on the floors and the dual usage feature would be helpful. However, having other departments take these units and use the as walkie-talkies defeats the purpose and sanctity of the AAD programming and you could potentially have associate working without an AAD device if they have been repurposed elsewhere. AAD’s should be properly labeled as an AAD device with a label maker, numbered, inventoried, and tested to ensure proper operation. They must be issued and returned daily so they can be properly charged and inspected. The initial purchase of AAD devices, especially for the Hilton branded hotels is being funded by capital and is being made to ensure compliance within the prescribed time frame by Hilton. Future replacement of lost or broken AAD devices will be paid for by the hotel’s operating budget, as well as the annual fees and any network fees.
