When the Basics Disappear
“A ship can go to sea and be self-sufficient,” he says. “So why can’t I be self-sufficient at my house?”
“So that’s why I got out on my own.”
His background had already exposed him to crisis from several angles. He served in the Navy and Army, worked in law enforcement, and saw Red Cross disaster response through his former wife. Over time, he began thinking about what people actually need when normal systems stop working.
That thinking became central to U.S. Mobile Solutions.
A commercial kitchen, laundry room or refrigeration system sounds ordinary until it is suddenly gone. Sperling remembers delivering laundry trailers early in his career, only to return later and find some had never been used because the site lacked water, drainage, gas or power. “So what we have been trying to do is make more trailers self-sufficient,” he says.
