PetroHab’s role extends beyond manufacturing and equipment rental. The company supports project planning, mobilization, enclosure installation, monitoring and field operations through trained technicians. On a Gulf of Mexico platform, for example, a fully pressurized enclosure may be required when crews are performing hot work in an environment where flammable or toxic gases or vapors, including methane and hydrogen sulfide could be present. In that setting, PetroHab’s SafeStop safety shutdown system (SSS) can be integrated with the PetroHabitat Hot Work Safety Enclosure to monitor conditions and provide another layer of protection. Where the site assessment identifies spark containment as the primary requirement and pressurization is not required, PetroLite may provide a more suitable and cost-effective solution. “In that case, PetroLite would be more useful to you and a lot more cost-effective,” Shutt says. The philosophy is to match the equipment to the actual risk rather than overspecifying a job and creating unnecessary cost or complexity. PetroShield was developed with pipeline and fabrication work in mind. When a pipe is being joined in an exposed work area, crews may be dealing with intense sun, wind, rain and constantly changing jobsite conditions. PetroHab developed a movable enclosure that can progress with the work. “You can push or pull that enclosure down, attach an air conditioner to the side of it, and now the guys have a nice comfortable space to work while they’re doing their operation.” It is another example of the same underlying idea. The equipment should adapt to the job rather than forcing the job to adapt to the equipment.
