“This is an all-hands-on operation,” Shutt says. “You have operations in the mix. You have safety professionals out there. You have engineers. Everybody is all hands in on this project because this is a very dangerous environment that we are in.” Jobs like that demonstrate why the enclosure is only part of the equation. Planning, engineering, monitoring, operations personnel, trained technicians and the people actually performing the hot work all have to function together. The enclosure was successfully constructed, and the structural components required to access the failed equipment were removed. “We successfully built our enclosure. We successfully removed some of those structures.” For PetroHab, the significance went beyond completing one repair. It demonstrated that work traditionally viewed as extremely difficult to perform around a live LNG operation could be approached differently when the relevant hazards were assessed and controlled. “This project demonstrated that certain hot work tasks can be completed at an operating LNG facility with the right planning, controls and trained personnel.”
PetroHab has since been asked back for additional work.
