THE HUMAN PART OF THE SYSTEM Shutt is careful not to give the equipment too much credit on its own. A properly engineered enclosure still depends on the people building it, inspecting it, monitoring it and performing the work inside it. “It’s making sure that it is done 100% properly because lives are at stake,” he says. “There’s no ifs, ands or maybes in this industry.”
A containment failure is not the equivalent of a minor equipment defect.
“That one little spark that comes out of that enclosure could be costing lives or the cost of your asset being damaged or destroyed.” That is why PetroHab treats technician training as something more serious than basic equipment instruction. Technicians go through weeks of preparation before they are entrusted with building and supporting systems in live operating environments. The company now works across West Africa, Brazil, Guyana, the United States, Tenerife and the Middle East. “Every one of our technicians has gone through weeks of training to make sure the enclosure is properly installed and the required controls are in place.”
The objective is consistency.
