Often, the repair cannot wait, or postponing it would create additional operational risk. “Some repairs cannot wait until the next scheduled turnaround,” Shutt says. A damaged component does not know when the next turnaround is scheduled. A failing system does not wait until the most convenient maintenance window. And in a hydrocarbon environment, postponing the wrong repair may allow a manageable maintenance issue to develop into a much larger operational or safety problem.
That is the narrow and difficult space PetroHab was created to work inside.
Something needs to be repaired.
The surrounding operation cannot simply stop.
The people performing the repair still need a controlled environment in which they can safely do their job. PetroHab’s technology provides the barrier, monitoring and containment needed to create that environment. Its technicians provide the experience required to build and manage it correctly.
But Shutt does not reduce the responsibility to technology.
