Cirencester chippy is the best in Britain Cirencester chippy, Malt & Anchor, has been crowned Best Fish and Chip Shop at The Food and Drink Awards. The fish and chip shop picked up the award at the event hosted by Stephen Fry. The awards celebrate the unsung heroes and high achievers of the food and drink industry. Malt &Anchor won for being 'no ordinary fish and chip shop'. Judges celebrated its traditional 'chippy' menu with a sophisticated twist, from panko coated calamari to locally-sourced pies and fresh fish specials. The restaurant’s speciality is 'fizz and chips', where food is complemented by a handpicked array of fine wines, cocktails and boutique beers. Since opening three years ago, director Dan Lafford has won much acclaim for his approach: everything is cooked fresh to order, serving the finest produce to the highest standards in a relaxing dining environment. Earth-conscious brewing is at the heart of expansion plans at Gloucester Brewery. The Gloucester Docks brewery has made a pledge to be carbon neutral by 2022 and it is transforming all elements of the business with sustainability in mind. It is looking at its brewing process, supply chain, energy use and delivery to lessen its impact on the environment. A range of vegan-friendly special beers is also being produced, using leftover bread from the Authentic Bread Company in Newent. It is an exciting time for the brewery, with new investors on board including, Gloucester Rugby owner and chairman Martin St Quinton. There are plans to double brewing capacity to 800,000 pints and create a range of gins. It is transforming the upper floors of the brewery into an event space and plans for another bar are also in the pipeline.
