OUR SPANISH MISSION. The Superintendent, L. H. Jamison, has just prepared the second Annual Eeport of the Mission and a copy will be sent upon request. There are 65,000 Mexicans in South- ern California and 18,000 in Los Ange- les. The Mission is open every night and the following extracts will show that the work is meeting with marked approval of the Lord. This is the only Mission of its kind between San Fran- cisco and El Paso. Give it your prayers and help. The following is a summary of the work of the Mission for the year end- ing November 30, 1909: Gospel meetings conducted, indoor.. 315 Gospel vocal meetings conducted, open air 311 Total number Gospel meetings 626 Total attendance at indoor meet- ings 5265 Average attendance at indoor meet- ings : 17 Total attendance at open air meet- ings ;.k-....„,....8340 Average attendance at open air meetings g . 27 No. tracts distributed, about 5850 No. Gospels given away 328 No. Testaments given away 98 No. visits made 342 No. professed conversions..^ 245 A Sample Testimony. (Translated from the Spanish.) My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation, in Mexico, know all the Mexi- cans of which many in this city have known, if they would testify, that from the beginning, after the most straitest sect of our religion, I have lived a "Soman Catholic" and after- wards seeing the horrors of that re- ligion I became an atheist. I verily thought with myself that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth, which thing I also did in Los Angeles and persecuted many of the saints, having received authority from the world, the flesh and the devil, whom I served. I ridiculed some, and I gave my voice against others, desiring at the same time to show myself wise, understanding neither what I was saying nor whereof I af- firmed. But I thank God because I, who was a blasphemer and a perse- cutor and injurious, have obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. And although dead in sins yet hath He given me eternal life, and
INSTITUTE ITEMS. Pastors or churches desiring the as- sistance of competent evangelists should communicate with us. The school has had a season of spe- cial lectures by J. B. Pratt and Mark Lev, which has been greatly enjoyed. Since the first of the year many new faces have appeared in the classes. We welcome these friends and pray that they may be greatly profited. The Sunday night services, held among the young people in the various churches, is stimulating very many to greater activity and d«votion. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson gathered a large number of friends together, who had been converted in the meetings lately held by them, and a very enjoy- able evening was spent in the Institute. The Extension Work of the Institute is designed to extend the class work into the cities and towns adjacent. Much progress already has been made and friends desiring classes in any sec- tion should communicate with Bev. B. A. Hadden, who has the work in charge. The Fishermen's Club has reached high-water mark in its weekly attend- ance. A quiet, prayerful, earnest spirit pervades the Club, that promises bless- ing to many. The deputation work during the holidays resulted in the con- version of a number of men, and strengthened the work of our Brothers Barrett and Hanney on the Aqueduct. The Institute conducted a Dispensa- tional Conference in the Calvary Pres- byterian Church last month. A whole week was given to that theme. Good audiences were present each night and the pastor testifies to the great spiritual uplift received by the church. Mark Lev, J. E. Pratt, W. L. Tucker, J. H. 'Sammis and the Superintendent took part. Mojave has no church or other build- ing of any kind (except the saloon) where the Aqueduct men can go for rest or to read, while waiting for the trains. Our Sky Pilot, Tom Hanney, has raised the money for the building and will soon have a place where he can gather the men in comfortable quarters and give them the glorious Gospel of the Son of God.
