HSDC Alton Full Time Prospectus 2023/2024

SUPPORTED INTERNSHIP Venue: Alton Campus Duration: 1 year/2 years Overview This course will provide you with the skills to enter the world of work. Our supported internship is a one-year course and is designed to build on students’ existing skills and interests. You will undertake a work placement with a relevant local employer for a minimum of 11 hours a week across the academic year (inclusive of usual academic holidays to give a real experience of work), whilst receiving support from your job coach. In addition to this, you will also attend college one day a week to work on your English and Maths skills, review your progress, attend tutorial sessions and develop employability skills. Students should leave the course ready for employment, and have a clear idea of their career pathway going forward. In addition to this, you will also attend college one day a week to work on your English and Mathematics skills, review your progress and develop your employability skills. We are excited to announce that we have been awarded Hampshire SEND Employability Hub status. We are looking to take on a cohort of Year 11 students through a specialist, individualised programme where the outcome is paid employment. Teaching & Learning As well as your ongoing work placement, HSDC offers a variety of teaching and learning approaches including lectures, tutorials, workshops, visits, presentations and group discussions. You will have access to the Learning Hub and other online and digital resources through the HSDC student portal (MyHSDC). Your job coach will work with you, initially during your placement, to provide support in undertaking any duties required. They will also liaise with you and your employer for the duration to ensure progress is being made. Realistic but stretching targets will be set and reviewed throughout the placement. You will be supported in all college classes via the use of Academic and Learning Support Assistants where needed and the use of any learning aids or assistive technology as required. Assessment Assessment will be through a process of observations, employer reviews and target setting based on consistent attendance at your workplace and at college. Progression Possible progression routes include, paid work (full or part time), traineeship, Apprenticeship, voluntary work and further training in work preparation skills. Entry Requirements No formal qualifications are required for this course however, a commitment and desire to work is essential, as is a recent record of work/ voluntary experience.
