The Cougars bite more that they can chew On January 8, the Cougars faced off against the feared Rockland Nationals, at the CIHA arena. The Vankleek Hill teamhad the lead at the end of the first period, the score being two to one. But the second period proved to be a productive one for the Nationals. They recorded three goals, whereas the Cougars didn’t manage to get a puck passed the Rockland goaltender once. In the third, both teams scored twice. Yet the effort by the Cougars wasn’t enough, as the Nationals won the game with a commanding six to four lead. Nikolas Ayotte, Maxime Emond, Trystan Lavoie and Brenden Rowe scored for the Cougars. The Vankleek Hill team faces off against the Papineauville Vikings on January 14 and against theMorrisburg Lions on Janu- ary 15.

The last two games played by the Vankleek Hill Cougars proved to be nail bitters, as both games were decided by a single goal. On January 7, they faced off against the North Dundas Rockets at the Vankleek Hill Arena. In the first period, the Cougars managed to score twice, while the Rockets’ offensive was steadily blocked. Neither of the teams managed to score in the second period. But although the Rockets forwards had been quiet for most of the game, they managed to score four goals in the third period. Only an additional goal coming from the Cougars managed to save the day. The game ended with a five to four score. Charles Doyon, Trystan Lavoie and Riley Sauvé each scored once while Tyler Druce score twice.

will never forget. “For the parents and the kids, they have the opportunity tomake new acquaintances and possibly even friends.” Representing one of Finland’s biggest sports organization, Harry Hannelius is a volunteer who is in charge of the exchange. “Where do we go to play hockey? There’s only one true answer, right? Canada is the only place to come and learnmore about hockey.” This is not the first year that the AAAWild host such an event. In fact, it’s been about six years that the exchanges with Finland take place, according to Denis Dumais, president of the minor hockey board of HEO. “Wemeet once a year,” added Dumais. “I consider Harry a very good friend although we only met five years ago. We work very well, I really like having him come and I wish they were here more. Usually we have two games, but this year it could not be

arranged.” Unfortunately, as the event was held on the same day as the fire on Main Street, a power outage caused the Cobras’ game to be abruptly cancelled after two to threemi- nutes only into the game. “It’s unfortunate; however, a lot of kids were still able to live the experience by watching the first game.” Actually, the EasternOntario teams might be called upon to live the experience them- selves as talks of a possible trip to Sweden or Finland are starting to emerge. The Eastern Ontario AA Cobras are a competitive teamof players fromall around Prescott-Russell, fromEmbrun, Hawkesbury, Rockland and Casselman, just to name a few. As for the AAAWild, the team is formed from a greater region, including the Cobra zone in addition to communities such as Russell Village, Cornwall and Alexandria.
