It’s hard to believe it’s Halloween yet again, and Burien will soon be buzzing with spooks and scares! This year, Halloween is on a Thursday, so a lot of local events are happening the weekend before — and that includes Boo in Burien. This family-friendly event is all about bringing the kids out for an afternoon of trick-or-treating. Kids can roam around in costumes from 12–4 p.m., collecting all kinds of candy. The event also includes hayrides, a kid-friendly haunted house, a maze, a dog costume contest, and much more. Boo in Burien is happening along SW 152nd and SW 153rd in Downtown Burien. The event is free and open to the public!

Later that same night, Burien comes alive once more for an evening for the grown-ups: the Creepy Crawlers Pub Crawl. From 6 p.m. until midnight, several of Burien’s bars and pubs will be decked out in all kinds of spooky decorations. Jump from pub to pub collecting stamps. If you so desire, you can purchase a “headstone passport” and pre-registration online or at the Discover Burien office. As part of the Creepy Crawlers Pub Crawl, there will be a costume contest with a $1,000 first-place prize! There are also prizes for second and third. You do have to be registered with Discover Burien to participate in the contest. Bars and pubs are also eligible to win a prize for the best decorations.

Vegan Ooze Smoothie

While these smoothies may not be nuclear-flavored — in fact, they’re all-natural and vegan — their neon colors may convince you otherwise. They’re a fun and festive way to get kids to drink their fruits and veggies.

INGREDIENTS:

Purple Smoothie Ingredients • 8 oz almond or coconut milk • 1 cup frozen blueberries • 1/2 cup fresh spinach • 1/2 frozen banana • 2 tbsp hemp seeds • 1 tbsp maple syrup • 1 cup ice

2 cups fresh spinach 1/2 frozen banana 1/2 fresh avocado 2 tbsp hemp seeds 1 tbsp maple syrup

1 cup ice

DIRECTIONS:

1. In a blender, combine all ingredients. 2. Blend on high until smooth. 3. For added fun, serve in beakers and flasks with crazy straws.
