Locals show their strength provincials Many Eastern Ontario families trav- elled to Barrie for the 2016 Federation of Broomball Associations of Ontario Junior Provincial Championships’, that took place from February 12 to 14. this, they stood their ground and showed Ontario that despite their youngmake-up, they were a force to be reckoned with. One of the highlights for these young players was that their teamwas recorded by CTV News and broadcasted on the local Barrie news channel that Friday night.

The regional Peewee division, which consisted of 9-12 year-old boys and girls from Finch, Russell and Carleton Place broomball leagues, represented the region. Amongst the 11 teams participating in this age category, the Eastern Storm team brought back the bronze medal, while the Eastern Rebels team brought home the gold! Eastern Storm’s coaches, Ashley Mel- bourne, Lindsay Bray, Marc Robinson and Al Reid, said they were proud and amazed by the amount of heart and grit their young players showed. With over half of their team members being nine or younger, this teamwas considered the “under-dogs” of this tournament. Despite
Eastern Rebels’ coaches, Bill Pynen- burg, Nadine Leblanc, Mathieu Leclerc and team manager Jasmine Larocque, wereproud of their gold team medalists. “Our seasoned players showed strong skills, solid game knowledge and strategy. Teamwork and dedication led them to vic- tory as the stands were alive with cheering and parents watched their young athletes play for gold. It has been several years since our regional peewee team brought back the gold medal from the provincial championship. Congratulations to the Eastern Rebels’ players for becoming the 2016 Peewee Ontario champs!”
Les joueurs de l’équipe Sting, qui comprend des joueurs de l’ensemble de la région, ont décroché la médaille d’or lors du tournoi provincial de ballon sur glace les 12, 13 et 14 février derniers à Barrie. Les responsables attribuent la victoire de ces jeunes joueurs à la connaissance et les conseils de leurs entraîneurs ainsi qu’à leur grand esprit d’équipe.
