Bien que le point de vue prévalent dans les trois cultures psychanalytiques continentales soutienne que les énactions doivent être comprises et finalement interprétées, il convient de garder à l'esprit les cas d'énactions contre-transférentielles, où lorsque la capacité analytique contenante de l'analyste est défaillante, elles se communiquent non seulement de manière non-verbale, mais également verbale, et même de façon déguisée dans une interprétation.
