ACCELERATION LANE: An ancillary roadway lane which provides additional space for vehicles to accelerate, in order to merge safely into a higher speed stream of vehicle traffic.
2.4 — Definitions — for Zoning & Subdivision Regulations, and Site Plan Approval This Chapter contains definitions for some of the terms used within Part 2 of this Unified Development Manual. Other highly specific definitions are incorporated within relevant regulations. • Definitions for terms specifically related to Wireless Communications Facilities are contained within these Zoning Regulations, Section 4-109A & B . • Definitions for terms specifically related to Signs are contained within these Zoning Regulations, Section 8-102. Any word or phrase defined anywhere in Part 2 of this Unified Development Manual has that defined meaning whenever used in these Zoning Regulations, Subdivision Regulations, and Site Plan Review Procedures and Standards. Words or terms which are not specifically defined in Part 2 have their ordinary meaning, as defined by State statute or in a dictionary. Definitions for Building and Construction Codes. Definitions for terms as they are used specifically in Building and Construction Codes may be found in Chapter 2, International Building Code, 2018.
ACCELERATION LANE

 ACCESS CONTROL: Regulatory limits on the right to access a street or highway from an adjacent property, often used to preserve traffic safety near intersections. ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT: A separate, complete dwelling unit with its own kitchen, sleeping area, and full bathroom facilities, located on the same lot as a permitted single-family dwelling unit which exists or is under construction. Also known as an in-law apartment, granny flat, studio apartment or guest house. (See Zoning Regulations, Section 7-101 on Accessory Dwelling Units.)
