B. Parking Lot Pedestrian Circulation. 1. General Design Standards.
3.4.5 — Parking Lots A. Parking Lot Design Standards.
a. Design pedestrian circulation within and around parking lots to harmonize with the architectural concept of the site. b. Separate pedestrian and vehicular circulation routes as much as possible. c. Where possible, locate parking and driveways to provide shorter pedestrian routes to building entries. d. Connect pedestrian routes on the site to the street sidewalk system or adjacent trails. 2. Sidewalk Design Standards. a. Provide sidewalk(s) connecting parking areas to building entrances. b. Where possible, separate pedestrian routes from driveways and parking with landscaping. c. Sidewalks must be 5 feet wide minimum . (1) Sidewalks adjacent to parking space(s) on one side must be 7 feet wide minimum , to allow 2 feet of space for bumper overhang. d. Clearly mark pedestrian crossings of driveways and parking access aisles , with paint striping, or colored or textured pavement.
1. Well-designed parking lots can increase comfort and safety for users, improve the view from neighboring properties, and enhance the quality of the streetscape for both pedestrians and passing motorists. 2. At the discretion of the SPRC, curbs may be required in all new parking lots. 3. Where a parking lot aisle is intended to connect to future construction, a barricade must be provided. a. The barricade material and design must be approved by the SPRC. (1) Traffic cones or similar temporary barricades are not acceptable. 4. Where a parking space is adjacent to a landscaped area, provide a 2-foot wide concrete surface in the door swing area adjacent to the curb beside the parking space.
