Since Advanced EyeCare opened its doors in Durango, Co. in 2008, its mission has been to provide exceptional patient care by utilizing advanced technology and education with respect, compassion, and fun. To stay up to date, the practice is committed to upgrading a new piece of technology each year. However, practice owner Lee Ann Hoven, OD, understands that to create an exceptional patient experience, state-of-the-art equipment must be accompanied by a well-trained and caring staff. She works with her team to set consistent goals for staff education, training and team building. Their most recent group outing was to accept the award for Best Eye Care Center in Durango. As the optometric industry is constantly growing, Advanced EyeCare strives to keep up with the ever-changing trends. Doctors and staff attend numerous conferences and education seminars each year, and back at the office, cross-training is encouraged to create comradery, build confidence, and promote teamwork. The team at Advanced EyeCare is dedicated to educating not only their patients, but other health care professionals in the area. As the scope of optometry continues to expand, it’s important for them to understand all that optometrists can offer. Dr. Hoven and her staff regularly communicate with
medical physicians about the variety of health issues that they can help monitor, and they visit pediatricians and school nurses to discuss the importance of the detection and treatment of vision problems in children at an early age. The team has also provided seminars and lectures at local clubs, libraries, schools, and medical centers. To further engage with patients and the community, Advanced EyeCare held a “Spooktacular Patient Appreciation Day” in the fall. All patients were welcome to attend the Hallow- een-themed party to browse frames, enjoy hot dogs and drinks, a photo booth, and raffles and prizes. Kids really liked the pumpkin patch in which every decorated pumpkin sported an eye patch to help start a conversation about and increase awareness of amblyopia and the need for early eye exams. The practice loves to help its community and those in need. In addition to collecting school supplies and food items to donate, the doctors have worked with local churches over the last three years to collect, verify, and catalog more than 800 pairs of glasses. The doctors and the glasses have gone to Guatemala, where the Advanced EyeCare team has provided eye exams to many villagers who have never before received eye care.
