Change in Golf Shop & Course Hours Please note that now through Sunday, 31 March, the Golf Shops will be open from 7:00 AM until dusk (except for Retail “T” Days – open til 7:00 PM at Arlington). The golf courses will be open from 7:40 AM until dusk.

WINTER GOLF COURSE SET-UP

As part of our ongoing effort to improve the quality and consistency of our golf course playing conditions, the Golf & Green Committee approved the following action at the business meeting held on 8 November 2011. Winter play course set up at ANCC will commence on or about Saturday, 1 December and remain in effect until approximately Friday, 1 March each season. During this time only 2 sets of tee markers will be placed on each hole – 1 forward and 1 back. In many cases, artificial mats will be placed on the teeing ground. When this option is utilized, all players should play from the mat and refrain from use of the grass teeing ground. We believe that this course of action will minimize winter damage, promote faster recovery and provide superior playing conditions during the golf season, generally March through October. The Committee thanks you for your support.

Golf Course Reminders

Course Reminders • The water/ice machines and drinking fountains at both courses will be winterized and closed until approximately March 15, 2018. • The restroom at White #3 and #7 at Arlington will remain open through the winter months. • The Restrooms at Red #4 at FFX will be open whenever courses are open.

CWGO hosts socials in the winter months to provide opportunities to get together in the off season. Our first event was a Happy Hour in the Eisenhower Lounge at ARL on Wednesday, 19 December. We had a great turnout and it was nice to celebrate the holiday season together. January Winter Social Wreath Clean Up at Arlington Cemetery : Every year, over 250,000 wreaths are placed on the graves of the heroes at Arlington Cemetery to honor and remember their service. While thousands of volunteers participate in the wreath laying ceremonies in December, the clean up efforts draw less of a crowd. This year, CWGO will participate in the retrieval which is tentatively set for Saturday, 19 January. We will meet at the club and head over to the cemetery, then reconvene at the Club for brunch. Keep an eye on your inbox or check out our Facebook page for more details. We hope to see you there! CWGO Career Women's Golf Organization

SENIOR MEN’S GOLF ORGANIZATION (SMGO)

2019 Northern Virginia Retired Men’s Golf Association (NVRMGA)

Don’t miss out on a great experience of playing local country club courses. If you are 55+, you can become a member of the NVRMGA and do just that! ANCC will field two separate teams (ARL & FFX). Both teams are always looking for new players. The ANCC ARL team was the league champion in 2010, 2015, and 2017, and the ANCC ARL and ANCC FFX teams were co-champions in 2011. In 2018, the ARL team finished 3rd in the Eastern Region and 4th in the League while FFX finished 3rd in the Central Region and tied for 7th in the League. Both teams are looking forward to successful seasons in 2019. The 2019 ANCC teams will be put together within the next few months and eligible ANCC members can sign up for either team. Visit the teams' web pages on the ANCC website before Thursday, 31 January for the ARL Team and by Friday, 1 March for the FFX Team and you will find signup instructions. Click here for Arlington team information and here for Fairfax team information. How does NVRMGA work? The League will again be organized into 3 geographic regions in 2019 - Eastern, Central and West- ern, with ARL in the Eastern and FFX in the Central. We will play each of 10 opposing teams twice, once at home and once away between early April and late September. The League Champion will be determined by a four-team playoff (The 3 region champions and 1 wildcard team) during the first two weeks of October. Play is on Thursdays, teeing off at 8:45 AM. As a team member, you will be assigned to play in at least five matches and have the opportunity to volunteer as a substitute for matches to which you are not assigned. These are handicap matches, so no need to worry about your current handicap. The Team Captains for 2019 are: Mike Downs (703) 317-1822 mpdx2@hotmail.com, Nick Fritz (703) 553-4435 nhfritz@verizon.net, and Jim Schroeder (703) 237-1939 jms.3821@verizon.net for the ANCC Arlington team; Verne Wattawa (703) 433-9279 vwandww@verizon.net, Mike Golembieski 703-643-1444 mpgolem@cox.net, and Dennis Bruns 703-534-7913 dennis.r.bruns@verizon.net for the ANCC Fairfax team. Sign up as soon as possible. It has become a tradition of the WGO-18 membership to sponsor 25 children from the DC Homeless Children's Playtime Program during the Holiday Season. Each child receives several gifts that are placed in a special "Santa's Christmas Gift Bag." This program has helped each of us remember giving to others who need our help the most is the true meaning of Christmas. WGO-18 W omen's 18-Hole Golf Organization

The Senior Men’s Golf Organization (SMGO) invites all ANCC members age 55+ to participate in our men's senior golf program in 2019. This is organized play that develops new friendships and enhances your enjoyment of golf and the Club. The SMGO program features an ABCD scramble at 8:30 AM typically on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at the ARL course commencing in April through October. Other tour- naments may be scheduled when play dates are available. All ANCC members are welcome regardless of their handicap. If you were a member in 2018, your membership will automatically be renewed for 2019. A sign-up list for new members will be posted in the ARL Golf Shop by December 1, 2018. If you do not want to participate in 2019, please indicate your decision to be deleted on the sign-up sheet at the ARL Golf Shop or you may contact Peter Junghans at pjunghans@aol.com or (703) 836-7966. New members who may be leaving the area for the winter are encouraged to sign-up prior to departing. The 2019 dues level will be set prior to the opening of the season. Dues cover the cost of lunch in the Clubhouse after each of the 14 ABCD Scrambles...best deal in town!! Standard cart fees are charged for each event in which a member participates. A $10 entry fee for the prize pool and the cost of coffee and pastries available at each ABCD Scramble is collected at check-in for each scramble.

Year-Round Handicap Posting

In 2009, the VSGA adopted a new handicap revision schedule and active season dates. Virginia no longer observes an inactive season allowing instead for year-round posting. Handicap index revisions will take place on the 1st and 15th of each month throughout the winter months. However, course conditions will dictate when scores can be posted and will be posted in the Golf Shops.

WINTER SKIN WORKOUTS

with Trish

“Work out” your skin this winter with a series of chemical peels! Chemical peels are popular, non-invasive skin treatments that renew and rebuild skin. Winter is the perfect time of year to correct sun- damaged, dry, and aging skin. Chemical peels exfoliate the outer layers of skin, speed up cell turnover, and allow new, healthy skin to come to the surface. A series of 3 or more peels is ideal -- just like working out your body once is good but more is better! 1 peel $70 3 peels $195 For more information, contact Trish at (703) 568-7942 (call or text) or trishgray@verizon.net. 1.
