Things are moving at Dodge
Dodge is a very important brand within the North American automotive industry, and it has an interesting array of vehicles to prove it.
Dodge’s great looking Journey mid-sized crossover is now the most popular of its category in Canada.This smaller vehicle can be powered by a four-cylinder engine or by a V-6, both with front- or all-wheel drive. New this year is the much bigger and very impressive Durango, a real SUV powered by the Pentastar V-6 or the HEMI V-8 and available with rear- or all-wheel drive.
The line-up starts with the all-new Dart, the recently revealed compact car that is about to replace the now-disappeared Caliber. It then continues with the mid-sized Avenger sedan, a classic looking front-wheel drive that has been highly improved in the last few years. Dodge’s flagship is the mighty Charger, which was also recently redesigned. It still has its sharp looking silhouette and is powered by the economical yet powerful PentastarV-6, the legendary HEMI V-8, or even its more powerful SRT8 version. The Charger usually comes as a rear-wheel drive, but it can be ordered with the all-wheel drive configuration. If you are looking for a sporty coupe, don’t forget that the great looking Challenger is still available, including the mighty SRT8 version. Dodge is also well known for its light trucks, and the Grand Caravan minivan is truly the flagship of that division. Recently revised, the world’s most popular minivan is now powered by the Pentastar V-6 engine, combined with a six- speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
If you are looking for a real pick-up truck, your local Dodge dealer can show you his catalogue of Ram trucks, includ- ing the mighty Heavy Duty versions available with the legendary Cummins turbodiesel engine. At some point the sporty Viper sports car will be back on the market, but it will not bear the Dodge name; rather, it will be called the SRT Viper.

If there is something to be said of Hyundai, it’s that this Korean automaker is not afraid to offer some of the best-designed econ- omy cars on the market. Its most recent subcompact, the Accent, is living proof of that decision. The 2012 Accent is powered by an all- new 1.6-litre, inline four-cylinder engine that features direct fuel injection. The small engine can develop some 143 horsepower. Both automatic and manual transmissions are six-speed, and the car remains a front- wheel drive. The new Accent, available as a sedan or a hatchback, also sports a brand new rede- signed interior that matches the exterior lines. Among the most interesting fea- tures are the four-wheel disk brakes, trac- tion control, and much more.
