W hen Ryan Serhant, best-selling author and star of Bravo TV’s "Million Dollar Listing NY,” says he’s going to do something, he does it. Even if it means responding to emails at 3 a.m., he will always get the job done. Being true to his word doesn’t just mean he’s an incredibly nice guy with impeccable manners. This characteristic is only part of the reason why he is the #1 real estate agent in New York with the #1 team in New York and #3 in the nation, and has sold over a billion dollars in real estate in 2019. Anyone in real estate knows it can be rough in the beginning. For Serhant, it was no different. While his numbers are undoubtedly impressive, he wasn’t always the superstar real estate agent he is today. When he first moved to New York City in 2006, he had a number of odd jobs including hand model and actor. Then, he got his real estate license in 2008 — on the same day Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy. In his best-selling book, Sell it Like Serhant , Serhant describes the difficulty he had in the beginning of his career and his thoughts about giving up real estate completely. He had no money — even his credit card was declined at a NYC bodega in an attempt to buy yogurt. Not even his colleagues offered any tricks to help land him on his feet.
