As an organisation, here are some of the actions we have taken to reduce our carbon footprint and the amount of waste produced:
• Over 65% of energy used in production is from solar or other renewables. • All our head office lighting has been switched to LED lighting, with an annual CO2 saving of 73%.
• Hybrid working model saves 119,000 driving miles annually. • 77% of company vehicles are now either hybrid or all electric.
• In 2022 we changed our distribution network moving away from multi vehicle pallet networks to a dedicated Euro 6 compliant core fleet of vehicles saving over 80,000 tonnes of CO2 per annum. • Havwoods is governed by the FORS (fleet operators recognition scheme) where we have to meet certain criteria to be accepted as a member, and as such we go through annual audits for compliance to maintain this standard. Our transport works to the highest standard for safety, emissions and training. • We are currently trialling electric Moffett vehicles, working closely with the development of the machines. • We are working closely with Volvo trucks in the development of Electric commercial vehicles with a 26t being available in this year. • The 35-micron standard film was changed to a 15-micron Nano film, going from 20,679kg in film to 6,064kg saving 14,615kg CO2 impact. • All Havwoods packaging materials are now either recycled, recyclable, or both.
• 62% saving on fuel usage in 2022 compared to 2019. • Our pallet wrap machine was upgraded to allow a 270% pre stretch on the film, meaning we use less, and the pallets are more stable in transit.
