NOT AS YOUNG AS YOU USED TO BE?

YEAH, RIGHT!

With current technology and medicine, most people alive today will hit their mid-to-late 80s. Staying in shape as you age isn’t about living longer; it’s about having a great quality of life between 55 and 85. And that’s our goal with Fit Body Forever: to help you enjoy your life as you age. Want to know more? I literally wrote the book on the subject. It’s called “The Pinnacle,” and I highly recommend it to anybody who wants to maintain a good level of fitness as they age.

There’s a myth in our society that once you hit 55, you need to slow down and take it easy. That’s just not true! Look, I’m not saying that as we enter old age we should be lining up to fight an 800-pound gorilla.

But people don’t have to restrict themselves to walks around the neighborhood, either. We recently had our grand-opening party for Fit Body Forever, an expansion of our existing programs and facilities. About 250 people showed up, and we had an awesome time unveiling the new things we’re going to be doing. Many of them center around busting that “slow down as you age” myth. Most people over the age of 55 are concerned about injury, which can be a risk with any exercise. But moderate exercise, especially exercise in a gym with trainers, doesn’t pose a high risk of injury. Actually, the opposite is true: If you stay in the best shape possible as you age, your ability to avoid common injuries like slips, trips, and falls will be much better. And your quality of life will be better too; you can spend more time challenge yourself. Most important of all, the day-to-day challenges of aging — like getting out of a chair or out of a car that’s low to the ground — won’t be nearly as troublesome. playing with the grandkids, swinging a golf club, and finding other ways to

Of course, there are also plenty of resources available right here at our facilities. Our staff is competent and knowledgeable, and I’ve spent a lot of time studying aging and how fitness plays a role in our well-being after age 55. If you want to know more, why not stop in and chat with us? We work with all kinds of people of all ages and with different goals for their fitness. Whether you want to run a half-marathon at 75 or just be comfortable raking the yard this fall, we can help. Slow down as you

age? Why would you do that? The best years are still ahead.

Move ON THE CHEAP

Moving can be a stressful experience. Buying or renting a home is expensive enough. But between the down payment or deposit and the cost of movers, the grand total can be overwhelming. However, with these tips, you can cut down on your moving costs. Lighten Your Load and Use Social Media One of the easiest ways to save money and time during your move is by selling and donating unused items in your home. And packing up and moving is so much easier when you have less stuff! “Take your upcoming move as an opportunity to make a little extra spending money when you’re decluttering your home,” says Linda Descano, women and money expert from Citibank’s Women & Co. An easy way to sell your unused items is by posting ads for them on eBay, Craigslist, or Letgo. Social media can be a great tool for getting your moving supplies for free. Make a post on your social media accounts asking for boxes and other moving supplies. People often have extras lying around. Tax Deduction If you’re moving more than 50 miles away, you can save your receipts for a tax deduction, says Adrian Nazari, CEO of credit and load website creditsesame.com. But you have to keep a few things in mind. In order to receive tax deductions, your move must be job related, and accepting the job would have had to increase your commute by more than 50 miles if you had decided not to move. You also must be employed full time for at least 39 weeks during the 12-month period after you move. Lastly, your employer must not be covering your moving expenses. It’s true, moving can be stressful and expensive. However, following the tips above can not only save you time and effort, they can also save you a good chunk of change.

Cure for the Common Cold?

Echinacea Might Be the Herb You’re Looking For

such as runny nose, sore throat, or fever. The study found that participantswho drank several cups of echinacea tea throughout the day for five days experienced shorter periods of sickness than those who drank tea without echinacea. Due to the way echinacea interacts with the immune system, individuals on medication that suppresses the immune system should not take any form of echinacea. People with diabetes, tuberculosis, multiple sclerosis, and any autoimmune diseases are also advised against taking echinacea. The effectiveness of echinacea is helping the herb quickly become one of the most popular holistic supplements in North America. Just be sure you speak with a doctor before giving anyone in your family a new supplement.

Echinacea was a very trendy herb in the late 1980s, but it fell out of popularity as the public went on to the next big thing. However, there are many reasons why this fantastic herb should have a place in everyone’s medicine cabinet. The active substances in echinacea can boost immune function, helping relieve pain and reduce inflammation. While an outright cure for the common cold remains elusive, research from the University of Maryland Medical Center shows that echinacea might be the herb you need to get back on your feet faster. Clinical trials show that participants who took a dose of echinacea via a pill or a tincture right when they began to feel sick reduced the length of their cold by one to four days. Fifty-eight percent of participants avoided experiencing a cold altogether. Echinacea tea is also extremely beneficial in treating a cold. Another study followed people with early cold or flu symptoms,

WHERE TO WATCH THE GREAT AMERICAN ECLIPSE

On August 21, 2017, the greatest show of the summer will take place in the United States: a total solar eclipse! This eclipse will be visible across North America, but the path of totality — the area where the moon completely covers the sun—will only fall in the continental U.S., leading this cosmic event to be called the Great American Eclipse. If you’re already in the United States, a day’s road trip is all you need to grab a front row seat for this rare astronomical occurrence.

Sandhills, North Platte, Nebraska In the heartlands, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more perfect viewing location than the Sandhills of western Nebraska. With wide-open skies, low rolling hills, and no towering buildings to get in the way, the Sandhills are sure to be a popular viewing spot.

The Museum of Idaho, Idaho Falls, Idaho The Museum of Idaho has been designated an Official NASA

Observation Site, and the museum is hosting four days of awesome events to celebrate. Enjoy live presentations, technology demonstrations, and special exhibits as you prepare to watch the total eclipse with NASA scientists. Visit the official website of The Great American Eclipse at greatamericaneclipse.com for everything you need to know about this once-in-a-lifetime sight!

Columbia, South Carolina Need a place to watch the eclipse in the southern U.S.? Then get yourself to South Carolina, where the state capital of Columbia is almost right in the middle of the path of totality. Plenty of hotels make Columbia a great viewing location for those who don’t want to camp out, and the vibrant city life means you’ll have a lot to do even when the eclipse is over.
