part in the United Way campaign with participating principals and others issuing fundraising challenges to their sta" and students. Le Conseil scolaire de district ca- tholique de l’est Ontarien (CSDCEO) is also on board for the campaign with the district director promising to don cape-and-cowl if the CSDCEO attains its fundraising goal. O#cials with CPRUW are in touch with the other two main school districts in the Pres- cott-Russell to solicit their participation in the campaign. At Cambridge Public School, part of the fundraising activities for students to take part in include a pancake breakfast, an on- line auction later in the month through the school’s own Facebook page, and a PhysEd Fit session with the principal at the end of the month. “That (!tness challenge) seems to have pumped their interest,”Wagensveld said, chuckling. For the Get Fit with Wagensveld session, each class has to collect pledges equal to two dollars for every student in their room. If every classroom succeeds in meeting their plege goals, then Wagensveld is wil- ling to take the entire school on for a fun !tness session, though he will have to give some thought about the possible activity. Otherwise he will lead whichever class, or classes, do meet their pledge goals by the end of the month. All funds raised through the United Way November superheroes campaign will go back into each community in Prescott-Rus- sell through one or more aid programs that the CPRUW sponsors. Last year the agency’s fundraising cam- paigns supported projects like the break- fast program at various schools, which en- sures that all students, including those from low-income families, have a good breakfast to start the day and be alert during class.

They can’t outrun speeding bullets. They’d lose a tug-of-war with that locomotive. And forget about jumping over a tall building in a single bound. But what these local heroes can do is their very best to help publicize the United Way program in every school in Prescott-Russell. School districts are leaping into action to create their own leagues of avenging costumed caped crusaders dedicated to truth, justice and fundraising for Centraide Prescott-Russell United Way (CPRUW) with the non-pro!t agency’s November Su- perhero Campaign for United Way. Jason Wagensveld is in charge of the local “justice league” branch of the project for Upper Ca- nada district schools in Prescott and Russell counties. As principal of Cambridge Public School, he has volunteered to don cape- and-cowl as part of the UnitedWay crusade. He’s just not sure yet what masked mystery man alter-ego he’s going to adopt at the end of the campaign. “It’s not determined,” he said, regarding his future secret identity, during a phone interview Monday. “It will be determined by the kids.” While he waits for all of the students at Cambridge to decide on his hero role, Wa- gensveld is shepherding all of his Seven Sol- diers of Victory through their paces. Three school administrators in Russell Township have signed up for the campaign along with two from schools in the Clarence-Rockland area, and one each for Plantagenet and Vankleek Hill. Schools throughout the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) are taking
