Rappelons qu’en septembre dernier, la Ville s’était engagée à verser une somme d’environ 50 000$ en guise de prime de séparation à la suite du congédiement de Liette Valade.

HAWKESBURY | Lors de la dernière séance du conseil de la ville de Hawkesbury avant les élections d’octobre dernier, la Ville a amené l’idée d’abolir le poste de direc- teur des loisirs et de la culture, occupé par Liette Valade jusqu’en août, date où elle a été congédiée. L’abolition de ce poste entraînerait un changement à l’organi- gramme de la Ville, qui renommerait alors le poste de directeur du développement économique en celui de directeur des ser- vices communautaires, en plus de créer un nouveau poste de coordonnateur des loisirs et de la culture. «Une analyse a été faite pour voir, entre autres, les activités qui se chevauchaient et nous avons vu que beaucoup d’organismes étaient en lien avec les deux directions, a déclaré la gestionnaire en ressources humaines de la ville de Hawkesbury, Élise Larocque. FromNovember 10 to 17, Hawkesbury OPP responded to 199 occurrences, including six break and enter, four incidents of assault and four theft reports. There were no im- paired driving related incidents reported during this time. From the 199 occurrences, 21 of them resulted in charges.

On November 12, o#cers responded to an alarm at Dalmen Windows and Doors in Saint-Isidore shortly before 10:30 p.m. Constables Leslie Hahn and Jason Cholette investigated the matter and it was discovered that someone had broken into the busi- ness via a broken window. Trucks in the yard were damaged and there was an attempt to steal the trucks which contained windows, doors and related items. Nothing was reported missing from the property. Two weeks prior, a truck containing windows and doors had been stolen from the same location. The truck was later found burnt in Ottawa. The estimated value of good stolen was $135,000. The matter is under investi- gation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Hawkesbury OPP at 613-632-2729 or 1-888-310-1122. Just before 3 p.m. on November 10, Constable Mario Bourgeois observed a white 2006 Pontiac Pursuit traveling at 160 km per hour in a posted 100-km per hour zone. The driver, 76-year-old Nina Gann Belayev of Montreal, was charged with racing a mo- tor vehicle. She was also charged under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with operating a motor vehicle without insurance. The vehicle was seized and impoun- ded for seven days. Belayev’s drivers’ licence was also seized and suspended for seven days. The driver is scheduled to appear at the L’Orignal Court on December 4, at 9 a.m. Stunt Driving Charges

VANKLEEK HILL | The Vankleek Hill (VKH) Farmers Market held the annual The Farm- er and The Chef tasting event last Satur- day. Several vendors and customers were very happy with the results. “All of our famers are very good chefs,” smiled Laurie McClintock, manager of the market. “Al- most all of our producers are organic. It is not a requirement, but it is a bonus.” “The treasurer Gail Kroenwald founded the market 18 years ago,” said McClintock. “A few of the vendors have been here a long time. The food is really good and really fresh.” “People do not know we are open all year round,” said Mark Greenwald, a member of the board of directors for the market. “We are only closed for Christmas and New Year’s.”The market has 8 board members to make sure everything runs smoothly and people know what is going on. “We have a website that people can check out and see what is going on,” said Greenwald. “Every week, we update the site and make a list of what vendors are supposed to be at the market that Saturday.” “The market is a good way to have a fun day and let people taste the things that are made here,” said McClintock. “We normally have about 15 vendors with more around Christmas time. Everything is made here by the vendors.” The market is more than just shopping, for some Jennifer Dewar makes breakfast at the market every other weekend.“I used to own a restaurant in Dalkeith,” said Dewar. “I love coming here. Des entreprises de la région ont été ré- compensées du Prix de la première minis- tre pour l’excellence en innovation agroal- imentaire. Parmi ces lauréats provinciaux, la Ferme Avicole Laviolette de Saint-Isidore, Beau’s All Natural Brewing Company de Vankleek Hill et Glengarry Cheesemaking Inc de Lancaster font honneur à l’industrie. Leurs contributions innovatrices comme entre- prises de transformation ont été hautement soulignées. La Ferme Avicole Laviolette Chaque oeuf qui quitte la Ferme Avicole Laviolette porte le sceau de l’innocuité alimentaire – presque littéralement. En 2012, Marcel Laviolette a décidé qu’il était insu$sant d’apposer sur chaque carton un code de traçabilité. À la place, il a implan- té un système automatisé qui appose sur chaque œuf un code alphanumérique. Le producteur certi#é HACCP est le premier en Ontario à avoir mis en place un tel sys- tème de traçabilité exhaustif. Parce que le code révèle la date de production, la date du lot et le numéro du producteur, tout éventuel rappel est rapide et précis. Brewing Company est passée d’une entre- prise en démarrage à une entreprise %oris- sante dont les ventes dépassent 12 millions $ par année. Une partie de cette réussite provient de la production d’une bière qui s’illustre à tous les concours. Sensible à l’en- vironnement, l’entreprise utilise exclusive- ment des produits de papier recyclé, donne ses résidus de brasserie à des agriculteurs qui les utilisent comme aliments pour ani- maux et favorise l’utilisation de bouteilles avec des bouchons couronnes qui peuvent être réutilisées plus de fois que les bou- teilles avec des bouchons dévissables. To enter, visitors had to make a food donation or pay $0.50, which would help the local food bank. “It’s a place of exchange for families who are looking for clothes and toys or a special gift for Christmas,” said Judith Sauvé-Roy. “All the pro!ts from the entry fee will be given to the Vankleek Hill food bank. I was surprised how fast people answered the invitation and how the businesses were wil- ling to come. It’s great and I’m thinking of doing another one downstairs when there’s no ice. We could have a lot more to o"er and accommodate more people.” “It was like a #ea market for moms with some goodies on the side, like scented can- dles,” said Jenny Delson, of Kanata. Pleased to see new mayor As I woke up on this Plantagenet morn- ing, I was pleased to !nd out that Mayor Lalonde has been replaced. For the most part, many felt that we were in for another four years. I didn’t believe it. Over his last two terms I saw a mayor whose lack of con- sideration for the population will leave a mark for years to come. a small town. When most cities !nd ways to capitalize on this simple activity, we created a situation where people try to sell their wares when most people are out of town. People moving in, moving out, selling baby cloths and even dying were left with the option to go to another town to sell these simple surpluses of living. Perhaps Lalonde should have listened to the complaints and realized that life does not wait for three-day weekends.

New deal with entrepreneur centre The United Counties of Prescott-Russell (UCPR) have approved a new core funding agreement between the counties and the provincial government for the Prescott and Russell Entrepreneurship Centre (PREC). The new agreement is for a three-year period rather than the annual agreement which has been the standard. The core agreement has the UCPR contracting with the Ministry of Research and Innovation for $267,075 spread out over a three-year period, which the counties will transfer to the Prescott- Russell Community Development Centre (PRCDC), which then delivers the various programs through PREC which will aid local businesses.
