RUSSELL | The eleventh annual Russell Ladies’ Night broke a new record this year, with a total donation of over $28,000 go- ing to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Society. About 600 women attended the event held at the Russell Arena the evening of May 2.

This year’s theme was Disco Flower Power. There were jumpsuits, sequined dresses, beads and headbands on display. Throughout the early part of the evening, silent auctions, photo opportunities and chances to win great prizes were followed by dinner served by A.J.’s Catering. Lianne Johnson, Regional Manager, Eastern On- tario, ALS Canada, and Lise Tessier whose husband passed away from ALS then deliv- ered short speeches. The evening wrapped up with a live auction with Stewart and Erin James auctioneers assisted by the Embrun Fire Department, three musical numbers from some of the cast of The Full Monty by RAPA and a disco dance by Quality Enter- tainment. The event draws in hundreds of spon- sors and donated items and services, with all auction proceeds going directly to the chosen cause, which changes each year. This year’s auctions brought in $23,000 and Scotiabank in Russell then contributed an additional $5000. MCs for the evening were JudyMcFaul, SebastienPilon andMaryAnne Ivison from Country 101.1. Other helpers in- cluded the men of the Russell Agricultural Society, our area politicians, men from the event sponsors’ companies and community organizations. “The funds and awareness …raised by hosting this event, is invaluable for the ALS clients and their families”, said Lianne Johnston. The Ladies’ Night committee is made up of Lynne Rochon (co-chair), Cindy Pichette, Suzanne Perras Campbell, Lianne John- ston (ALS Canada), Judy McFaul (co-chair), Michelle St. Pierre, Kelsey Thompson, Lynda Kemp, Lawrie Hamilton, and Linda Duhamel. Over the past 11 years, Ladies’ Night has raised more than $285,000 for charitable organizations.
