The Paris trip was intense, interesting and fun. We stayed with host families and undertook a punishing timetable of three hours of lessons every morning at ‘Accord’ language school in central Paris. Our afternoons were spent immersing ourselves in French culture and we had a packed schedule: on just our first day we tramped the Parisian trottoirs, visited the ‘Quartier Latin’ and the Eiffel Tower, and finished with a boat trip on the Seine. On the subsequent days we continued with our excellent and informative lessons and visited the Stade de France, the Louvre Gallery, Montmartre and the Sacré- Coeur and watched a film at the famous Rex cinema. On behalf of all the boys who were on the trip, I would like to thank Mr Baylis and Mr Millward for organising such an immensely enjoyable experience.

Every day started with three hours of school and finished with an amazing trip. After all that, we would relax with our host families, who were very entertaining to say the least. We visited the chocolate museum, the sports museum, Weihnachtsmarkt (the Christmas market), Cologne Cathedral, Beethoven’s birthplace (which is now a museum), an old palace and Bonn. We even ice-skated. My favourite trips were to the chocolate museum and the sports museum, which were very interesting and interactive. Who would have thought making a chocolate bar would be so complex? I particularly liked the sports museum, because it was inspirational to see how hard athletes have tried to achieve their goals. I also got to play a bit of football. Ice-skating was less appealing: I’m not saying I didn’t like it, but the cold and the falling onto my bottom did not agree with me. However, despite one or two blisters and sore legs at the end of each day, it was one of the most eye-opening and exciting experiences of my life. Throughout the trip, barring the odd thunderstorm, the weather was fantastic. (Even John Winter got a slight tan!) The scenery during the hike and at base camp
