Besides providing more of the shopping, dining and entertainment options for area residents, Bouchard noted that it also means reducing the taxpayer burden on residential property owners. His own research on Clarence-Rockland’s profile noted that about 94 per cent of the
municipal property tax revenue comes from residential taxes, with commercial and in- dustrial properties making up the remain- ing six per cent. He observed that in other municipalities the ratio is closer to 80 and 20 per cent. “I want to change the ratio for Clarence- Rockland,” Bouchard said. “To change the ratio, we need to attract more business, more industry.”

A positive attitude, creative ideas, and an energetic approach to problems are three of the main planks on Don Bouchard’s campaign platform for the Ward 4 seat on Clarence-Rockland council. “Creativity is one of the biggest assets you have to have,” said Bouchard during the August 22 official launch of his campaign, DJUJOHQBSUPGIJTTMPHBOPGi&OFSHZ 1PTJUJW - ism, Creativity”. Bouchard, who is a past member of the City of Clarence-Rockland’s recreation department and is also involved with the Rockland United Soccer Club, sees a need to broaden the recreational opportunities for children and youth in the community. He noted that there are many organized sports clubs, but he added that more options are also needed for those who are not as interested in team sports.

Suzanne Lafrance tentera de poursuivre une tradition qui s’est établie entre elle et son époux. Elle tentera de se faire élire dans le quartier 1 d’Alfred-Plantagenet. « Mon conjoint Benoit Lamarche est conseiller depuis 15 ans, a déclaré Mme Lafrance. La passion de la politique est toujours restée dans la famille », ajoute la candidate qui souhaite promouvoir l’environ- nement, l’art et la culture si elle est élue. Ce serait un retour en politique pour Mme Lafrance, elle qui a déjà été conseillère NVOJDJQBMFEFÆ&MMFOFTÊUBJU pas présentée en 2000 pour se concentrer sur sa famille et sur sa carrière au minis- tère des Richesses naturelles de l’Ontario. &MMFBBVTTJUSBWBJMMÊQPVSMFNJOJTUÍSFEF l’Agriculture. À la retraite depuis janvier 2017, elle est maintenant prête à retourner sur la scène politique. « J’ai déjà l’expérience municipale. Je suis au courant des dossiers », précise Mme Lafrance, dont le conjoint ne sollicitera pas de nouveau mandat.
