Nats coach looks forward to next season “from top to bottom.”

They secured 21-year-old Jonathan Ca- meron, former Panthers goalie, as the new anchor guardian for the Rockland net. Joi- ning Jonathan was his brother, Cameron, a 17-year-old who’d been playing for the Cumberland Bandits. “It was going to be the last year and chance for these boys to play together on the same team,” Roy said, “and it was great.” Then they went hunting around for some top-calibre outside talent. Three lads from Toronto became part of the new Nationals roster: MatthewClifford, 18, for the defence, Anthony Tulipano for the forward line, and Jeff Brett, another forward who was named NCJHL Rookie of the Year by the end of the season. This past season’s Nats has had a “youth profile” for the players bench, Roy agrees but adds that it’s all part of the rebuilding plan. He also noted that overall this youn-

ger Rockland team has more than proven itself capable of holding its own against the other teams with their rosters of older, bigger players. “It’s all about our discipline,” he said. “It’s been key, with the least penaltyminutes cal- led in the league by far. Our boys respect each other, and they play for each other. What’s also helped is that we’ve played three-quar- ters of our (regular) games against Québec teams. Whichmeans that we have had to be very disciplined across the board.” While the coaching staff and the players were a bit disappointed at Rockland getting tapped out early in the playoffs period, Roy observed that this past season’s overall re- sults are a vast improvement to the previous one, and he expects even better next season. “At the end of the day, we’re in a very good position for next year,” he said. “We feel we’re among the best in the league.”

When Kosch was the owner of the Maxville Mustangs, Roy was the team’s general manager. After the club franchise was sold to Papineauville and transformed into the Vikings, the two of them came on board with the Nats and brought the team into the National Capital Junior Hockey League’s playoffs during the 2010-2011 season, finishing second overall to Embrun in the finals. After that Roy and Kosch took a break from active involvement in the junior hoc- key scene until last year when the Nats club asked them to come back and work their magic again. Roy recalled that 50 players turned up for the tryouts camp before the start of the 2015-2016 season. He and Kosch had a few targets inmind for their rebuilding plan, starting with the netminding.

André Roy looks back at this year’s past season for the Rockland Nationals with a satisfied smile. Rocklandmay not have won the playoffs title this year in the National Capital Hoc- key League but the Nats general manager is more than happy with the way the team has bounced back from deep in the league basement where it finished up at the end of the 2014-2015 season. The Nats won just five games out of their entire schedule back thenwhich prompted the club owners to call in Roy and his fellow junior hockey partner, Tim Kosch, to see if they could repeat their success they’d enjoyed once before as the ramrods behind Rockland’s junior C squad. “It was a complete rebuilding,” Roy said,

Participants needed for research study about performance measurement and reporting in primary health care Researchers from the Bruyère Research Institute/University of Ottawa are looking for 14 volunteers who live in Eastern Ontario, are 18 years of age or over, currently have a family physician and have NOT been diagnosed with any chronic illnesses. Participation would involve attending an all-day event, called a Deliberative Dialogue, which is the same as a focus group, just of a longer duration. The goal of the day is to reach common ground about the reporting of important elements of the Primary Health Care system to patients and the public. The event will be held May 17 or 18 in Orléans, ON. You will also be asked to complete three short surveys. Participants will receive an honorarium in appreciation of their time. Meals will be served during event. If you’re interested, please contact Jackie Schultz @ 613-562-6262 ext. 2920, or email Jackie @ jschultz@bruyere.org. Participants will be randomly selected from those who are interested and are eligible to participate.
