SNC pushes for no-garbage-left-behind rule

CLARENCE CREEK Carnival time continues with Sunday's highlight, the annual Ice Car Races. CLARENCE-ROCKLAND Clarence-Rockland Public Library hosts Children’s Story Time for ages 2 to 5, 10 a.m., every other Tuesday at the Bourget branch and every Wednesday at the Rockland branch. PLANTAGENET Le Club des Anciens de l’École secon- daire catholique de Plantagenet hosts an evening wine-and-cheese theatre- and-dance event Feb. 25, 7:30 p.m., at the school on County Road 17 Tickets $30 regular, $25 for club members. kind of fish are getting hooked as part of its long-term studies on local fish species for future habitat conservation and enhancement work. This month SNC staff will be visiting participants in the Annual Wendover Knights of Columbus Ice Fishing Tournament on Feb. 18 and the Grenville Fish & Game Club Pike Derby on Feb. 25.

Staff will also distribution information and posters on its campaign to eliminate garbage left behind on rivers and lakes in the South Nation River watershed during ice fishing season. Any garbage left on the ice ends up in the water during the thaw and presents potential problems to local fish habitats and waterfowl.

Anglers out to try their luck with their jigs in ice fishing derbies this month will have some extra company out on the Ottawa River. The South Nation Conservation Authority (SNC) will be collecting creel surveyinformationonhowmanyandwhat
