Local schools share the spotlight district system.
BROCKVILLE | Several schools were up front and centre in the spotlight during this year’s special awards event for the Upper Canada school district. This year’s annual Trustee Innovation Awards and theTedKennedy LegacyAwards for the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) took place as part of the Sept. 24 district board meeting in Brockville. Rockland District High School students Nerys Foss and Hazar Karagul received spe- cial recognition from board trustees during the meeting for their creation of the Trust- ee Innovation Award design itself, which features the Book of Knowledge and the branch of a floral tree in the graphic. The Trustee Innovation Awards recognize UCDSB staff members for using “innovative instructional practices” and other actions or methods to help district students succeed and help improve the overall Upper Canada BROCKVILLE | Upper Canada school board trustees are taking a proactive position to make sure the district budget doesn’t get unbalanced by accident. During the Sept. 10 regular session, the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB), approved three resolutions aimed at guaranteeing that the 2014-2015 budget passed in June before the summer break stays balanced and does not require re- working because of any Ministry of Educa- tion funding policy changes. In a news release following the Wednes- day meeting, the UCDSB expressed “con- cern due to recent hints by the Ministry of Education that the province is tightening its belt.” The three motions are designed to
This year’s five award recipients included Katherine McDonald-Froats, an education- al assistant at Russell Public School, Diane Mount, a teacher at Rockland Public School, Doug Bowlby, an intermediate teacher with Gananoque Intermediate and Second- ary School, Susan Marble, an educational assistant at Rideau Vista Public School, , and Mason Black, a teacher with Smitth Falls District Collegiate Institute. The Ted Kennedy Legacy Awards honour those UCDSB elementary and secondary schools which have raised the most money , per student, for the Terry Fox Foundation during the past school year. South Crosby Public School earned the elementary award for its effort during the 2013-2014 term while Char-Lan District High School will re- ceive the secondary school award.
