TLMI Advocates On Capitol Hill reported by Greg Kishbaugh

Mark Andy, Esko Co-Host Event

On June 12, Mark Andy co-hosted a special event with Esko at its Euro- pean headquar ter s in War saw, Poland. The event, which attracted 50 representatives from printing companies around Eastern Europe, included live demos of Mark Andy presses and Esko prepress solutions, the most important of which high- lighted label printing using Esko Equinox software. The primary focus of the meeting was to present Mark Andy and Esko’s response to market trends, such as smaller runs and shorter de- livery times. Participants were shown how to prepare jobs using Equinox, which

TT LMI leadership and staff joined nearly a dozen other spon- soring organizations on Capitol Hill at the annual Print and Packaging Legislative Summit, June 19-20. The Summit marked a milestone for the organization, as it was the first formal event on Capitol Hill for TLMI. This year’s event saw the Summit’s highest attendance to date, with more than a 100 participants engaged on important legislative and regulatory issues.

Leadership from the Printing Industries of America (PIA), As- sociation for Print Technologies (formerly NPES) and the Spe- cialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) were just a few of the allied organizations TLMI spent time with discussing leg- islative, regulatory and industry initiatives. Connecting with these organizations and strengthening the voice of TLMI in Washington, DC, is a key directive of the TLMI Strategic Plan. Joining TLMI President Dan Muenzer at the Summit were: Michael Ritter, incoming TLMI Chairman; Gary Jones, CEO, Dot- It Label;Alex Joesten,TLMI Government Affairs Committee Co- Chair; Rosalyn Bandy, TLMI Director of Environment and Outreach; and Bryan Vickers, who covers government affairs is- sues for TLMI. To help kick off the event,TLMI moderated the Recycling and Environmental Regulations panel, which covered a variety of industry topics, including PROP 65; California recycling legisla- tion; the impact of China’s contamination policy on the U.S.

COMPETENCE 18, this year’s Open House event at Bobst, which took place June 5-8, 2018 at the Compe- tence Center of Bobst Mex, Switzerland, attracted more than 600 visitors. The show promised to show the “Solutions for the challenge of tomorrow,” ad- dressing key trends facing packaging converters, such as the need for shorter runs, greater versatility, e-commerce and constant innovation. Live Demos Attendees were able to see live demonstrations of selected key Bobst machines, and to hear from Bobst Services on some new developments. Highlights included the live demonstration of fold- er-gluer EXPERTFOLD 165 with the automated pack- er SPEEDPACK. There were live demonstrations of MASTERCUT 106 PER and MASTERCUT 145 PER. In addition, attendees had the chance to see EX- PERTFOIL 142 in action, as well as the MASTERFOLD 230. On the printing side of things, a static module of M8 LEMANIC inline flexo printing press was avail- able at the event. With printing samples available at the event, there were many questions from converters about the sim- plicity of the flexo process vs. offset, and how it is possible to achieve the print quality on display. Visi- tors were reportedly impressed by the sheer ease of using flexo technology compared with offset, and the greater consistency in the end result.
