Port Hawkesbury Paper Releases 2025 Sustainability Report Port Hawkesbury Paper (PHP), Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia, has released its 2025 Sustainability Report, which reportedly details a year of progress across safe- ty, clean energy, environmental accountability, and com- munity investment. Construction began in 2025 on the Goose Harbour Lake Wind Farm, one of Nova Scotia’s most ambitious clean energy projects, and remains on schedule to come online by the end of 2026. Once operational, the wind farm will supply at least 60 percent of PHP’s annual electrical use and is estimated to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 350,000 tons per year—equivalent to 2.4 percent of Nova Scotia’s 2022 total emissions.

The project includes a 10 percent equity stake col- lectively held by 13 Mi’kmaw First Nations through the Wskijnu’k Mtmo’taqnuow Agency (WMA), supported by the Canada Infrastructure Bank’s Indigenous equity loan program. PHP aligned its greenhouse gas emissions tracking with the internationally recognized Greenhouse Gas Pro- tocol, ensuring its environmental data is accurate, trans- parent, and globally comparable. PHP completed its annual forestry audit with zero non-conformance issues, marking its 17th year of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC-C112699) certification and 11th year of Sustainable Forestry Initiative certification. The au- dit found the company exceeded its protected areas re- quirement, with 18 percent of conservation lands versus the required 10 percent. PHP continued its second year of a four-year, $100,000 pledge to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital’s Cancer Care Centre. In addition to ongoing fundraising and sup- port of the IWK Children’s Hospital, PHP continues to in- vest in education, youth programs, and local community organizations. Ongoing safety improvement continues to be a primary focus, and the company has implemented a layered audit- ing process to strengthen engagement and accountability across all levels of operations.
