Zionsville: Getting Back In Shape After Quarantine

TIPS FOR GETTING BACK IN SHAPE

Continued from the cover 1. At first, baby steps! We like to say, "Go slow, start low." When doing any type of exercise that you have not done recently, start back slowly, literally moving slowlywith good form, and only beginwith 5 to 10minutes of one activity before moving to the next. Low repetitions of each exercise and lowor noweights. You will gain momentum more quickly if you start in an easy-does-it manner and avoid injury. Our physical therapists can test your strength or flexibility in order to discern any problem areas and help you understand how best to regain your pre-COVID exercise momentum. 2. Wait, my weight! If ordering out and eating the same-old stuff at home has created some bad eating habits, take a close look at where you are relative to your ideal body weight. We have learned a few nuggets from this virus, and taking your body weight seriously or decreasing your co-morbidities (such as regaining cardio-vascular fitness and limiting respiratory risk factors) appears to be very important. Let us know if we can help refocus your goals to include more optimal fitness, before another wave of viral disease hits. 3. Proper rest, fuel and hydration. Let's face it: we have all been stressed in various ways over the past two months and now our nervous systems, our musculo-skeletal systems, our hormonal balances - all need a tune up to work properly. Start with plenty of good water (take your weight in pounds, divide by 2, and use this number as the amount of ounces of water to consume each day), add in good nutrients (start by adding fruits, spinach, nuts, beans, onions) and go to bed without any screens or phones. Try for 8 hours of sleep.

4. Get outside. Go outside and take awalk, bike ride or a jog. Stretch and breathe deeply. Another "get outside" thing is to get outside of yourself. Reconnect with others and find a meaningful event or charity to help champion. Perhaps a service organization needs your special skills to gain their momentum again. Meaningful activities take on a new light in our post-COVID, postTwilightZone existence. Let's do this!

WE’RE STAYING CLEAN! Zionsville Physical Therapy is committed to the health and well-being of you and your family. In the wake of the recent pandemic spread of COVID-19, we remain open by appointment only, and are taking every precaution. Before and after every session, we are asking our clients and staff to wash or sanitize their hands. Additionally, we have increased the number of times per day we sanitize our equipment and facility. We are offering telehealth conferencing through computer or phone video for those interested in staying away from the clinic.
