Elliott C. Moffitt 1950–2018 Actor, Educator, Director Brother Elliott

Esther Holiman; son, Evan Moffitt; mother, El- der Marguerite (Milton) Moffitt-Rogers; sister, Rev. Beverly Solomon; and a host of relatives, students, colleagues and friends. Thurman R. where he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and married his high school sweetheart. He was assigned to military duty in Alaska during the Korean War. After his Honorable Discharge from the Army in 1953, he enrolled at Langston Univer- sity where he was a stalwart member of the Langston Lions Football team. He earned in 1956 with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts. In 1959, Patterson moved his family to Oklahoma City, OK and began his teaching career in Boley, OK, where he commuted to teach tailoring at the State Training School for Negro Boys. He later obtained a teaching in the Okla- homa City Public School System. His career with Oklahoma City included assignments at Carver Elementary, Truman Elementary, Roosevelt Middle School, Capitol Hill High School and Douglass High School, where he served as Assistant Basketball Coach. During the summers, he managed park activities at Truman Elementary, John F. Kennedy, and other city parks for the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department where he was a dynamic track coach who developed top runners who went on to win many track and field competitions in the state. He was preceded in death by his Sil- houette, Ella Jean Patterson, his parents and eleven siblings. He is survived by his son, Thurman R. Patterson, Jr. (Eloise 'Ella'), daughter Shebra D. Pat- terson Williams (Robert), granddaughter Latrice L. Patterson, grandson Thur- man Patterson, III, and several great grandchildren, brother Alfred Patterson, Sr., and a host of relatives, friends and former students.

Claiborne Moffitt (Fayetteville-Ft. Bragg-Pope AFB (NC) AL 1984) Alumni Chapter entered the Chapter Invisible on Sep- tember 27, 2018 in Lanham, MD at the age of 68. Brother

Moffitt was born May 1, 1950 in Chicago, IL and was the eldest of three children of Marguerite Moffitt-Rogers and the late Samuel Lawrence Moffitt. He received his formal education in the Chatham County school system. He at- tended Jordan-Matthews High School in Siler City, NC, where he played football, ran track, and played the trumpet in the marching band. After graduating high school, he at- tended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was an English and French major. As a student at UNC, he discovered his love for theatre and acting and participated in numerous on- campus productions, traveling theatre productions, and small parts in several movies. Brother Moffitt subsequently obtained his master’s degree from New York Uni- versity and became an acting instruc- tor, professor and director. He loved the opportunity given to him to impact and help formulate the lives of talented young artists. He was influential in promoting the professional careers of many of his students who appeared on Broadway and in commercials. Professionally, he served on the faculties of Bennett College in Greensboro, NC; Fayetteville State University in Fayette- ville, NC; and Bowie State University in Bowie, MD. In addition to theatre, he held interest in architecture and design which translated into the design of the new performing arts facility at Bowie State. Brother Thurman Richard Patterson, Sr., (Alpha Pi 1955) entered the Chapter Invisible on Sep- tember 18, 2018, at the age of 89. Brother Patterson (“Patt”) was a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi ® and a

faithfully devoted active member of the Oklahoma City (OK) Alumni Chapter where he spent many hours each week interacting and fellowshipping with his fraternity brothers, both prior to and after his retirement from teaching, coaching and working for the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department. Brother Patterson attended fraternal meetings and fraternal events regularly such as the annual Statewide Founders' Day Program, and the various chapter community events. He would often stop by the Kappa Kastle daily to ensure that everything was tidy and that all points of access were properly secured. Brother Patterson was born on Decem- ber 8, 1928 in Okmulgee, OK to Charlie Patterson and Mary Conner Patterson, the youngest boy of 13 children. His early school years began with his young- est siblings in Taft, OK, followed by his attending and graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, OK, where he met his future wife, Ella Jean Wilson. Immediately after his high school gradu- ation, Patterson moved to Kansas City, MO and he returned to Tulsa in 1951
