Tony R. Washington Jr. 1942–2018 Educator, H.S. Coach

provided management and technical assistance to small and minority-owned businesses. He returned to the City of Fort Worth in 1979 as an Assistant to the City Manager. He was promoted to Assistant City Manager in 1985 and served in that capacity until 1992. He was appointed City Manager in 1992 and served in that capacity until he retired in 2000. He was the first African American City Manager in Fort Worth and served longer than any previous City Manager since the Council/Man- ager form of government was adopted in 1925. Terrell helped establish a gang intervention program for Ft. Worth, entitled Med Star, and led the city’s es- tablishment of a 911 system. He began work for an engineering firm, CH2M HILL in 2002 and retired in 2016. A Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi, he served as the 10 th Polemarch of the Ft. Worth (TX) Alumni Chapter (1978- 1980). He was also a Life Member of the NAACP. Brother Robert Terrell is preceded in death by his mother Rosie McNeil; his father Albert (Jack) Terrell; his two brothers Joe Terrell (Gamma Rho 1958) and John Terrell (Mu 1962), and his wife of 38 years, Karen Kay Ter- rell. He is survived by daughter, Kelley Carson; and a host of relatives, friends, and colleagues. Ft. Worth (TX) Alumni Chapter dedicated a room at its Robert Starr Achievement Center in memory of Brother Terrell. Dr. George C. Washington III 1927–2018 Educator Brother Dr. George C. Washington

High School in Gadsden, AL and received his B. S. degree in Arts and Sciences (Biology and Chemistry) from Alabama A and M College (now University). Both graduate degrees were received from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. His professional experience included teaching and band director at Trenholm High School, Tuscumbia, AL and Council Training School, Normal, AL prior to moving to Jackson, MS in 1957 to teach at Jackson State College (now University). He retired from Jackson State University in 1999 as Associate Professor of Biology and Associate Director of Preprofes- sional Health Careers Program and worked several years after retirement as an adjunct professor. A longtime member of the Jackson (MS) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi®, Washington received many civic and church-related awards, including "Kappa Man of the Year" from the Jackson Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. In 2007, he was bestowed the "Lifetime Achievement Award," at the 71st Southwestern Province Council Meeting held in Little Rock, AR. While a member of the Jackson Northwest Op- timist Club, he was honored as a triple distinguished president. He served as a trustee of the Gulfside Association and as a member of the Board of Trustees, Piney Woods School. Brother George C. Washington III is survived by his wife, Dora; children, Dr. E. Patrice Colbert, George C. Washing- ton, IV (Delta Delta 1984), and Tamara Y. Washington; six grandchildren, Adri- anna Boothe, Chloe Colbert, Dennis Colbert, Grace Colbert, Alexandria and George C. Washington, V; a sister Edith Washington (C. S.), brother, Charles Washington (Chessel) and a host of relatives, friends, former students and colleagues. Shortly after his passing, the Southwestern Province issued a resolu- tion to the memory of Brother Washing- ton.

Brother Tony Rob- inson Washington, Jr. (Cape Charles- Accomac (VA) AL 1974) entered the Chapter Invisible on September 19, 2018 in Parksley, VA Brother Washington was born on August

13, 1942 in Jacksonville, NC to Tony R. Washington, Sr. and Carrie Hender- son Washington. He graduated from Jacksonville’s Georgetown High School. He earned a football scholarship to Johnson C. Smith University in Char- lotte, NC where he also earned a B.S. in Education. He began his professional career as an educator and high school coach at York High School in York, SC, where he coached the basketball team to a winning state championship. He then worked in Northampton County in Virginia for 23 years. After retiring from Nandua High School, he went on to be- come the first and only Head Basketball Coach at the Eastern Shore Community College. He developed a thriving bas- ketball program and recruited players, who traveled throughout the community college system of Virginia. Tony was a member of the Princess Anne (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi and was a charter line mem- ber of the Cape Charles-Accomac (VA) Alumni Chapter. He also remained active with the Salisbury (MD) Alumni Chapter. Brother Tony Washington was preceded in death by his parents: Carrie and Tony Washington, Sr. and a sister, Lillie Washington Harrod. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Earline Page Washington; two sons, Tony “TJ" Washington, III (Tamara) and Todd Washington (Shannon); one sister, Luetta Washington; grandchildren, Cameron, Ava, Zane, Hannah, Tony, IV “Jacob", Nylia, and Imani; and a host of relatives, friends, colleagues and former players.
