N early fifty years after the first Undergraduate Leadership Conference, the fraternity sought to further enhance opportunities for its collegiate members to develop their leadership. In 2000, the Kappa Leadership Institute (KLI) led by Junior Grand Vice Polemarch Kareem T. Brantley (1999-2001) brought to- gether elected undergraduate provincial officers from across the fraternity to learn about various leadership approaches in conducting the day- to-day operations of their chapters and other organizations. Then, in 2004, the fraternity again want- ed to broader access to high-quality training and instruction for a national cohort of its undergraduate leaders. Thus, the Undergraduate Leadership Institute (ULI) was born. Now, as the fraternity’s flagship leadership program, the ULI

brings together a diverse group of undergraduate leaders from across all provinces and representing dozens of colleges and universities during non-Conclave years. Designated by Greek letters (i.e., Alpha, Beta, Gamma), each class participates in a highly-structured, intensive curriculum of classroom learning and immersive field experiences, all of which are designed to increase participants’ capacity to lead on campus, in their communities, as emerging professionals, and within Kappa Alpha Psi. Our seven-day program pro- vides more than 75 hours of instruction and hands-on learn- ing in which our collegians engage with a variety of leader- ship styles, attend informative presentations and educational workshops, and undertake leadership roles on diverse teams.
