Henry Brothers was appointed to deliver the £40m Advanced Manufacturing and Innovation Centre (AMIC) as main contractor. Led by Queen’s University Belfast, in partnership with Ulster University and Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, AMIC has been developed as Northern Ireland’s leading centre for advanced manufacturing innovation. Together with Momentum One Zero - also being built by Henry Brothers - and iREACH Health, it forms part of a £230m Belfast Region City Deal programme designed to generate long-term economic and social value for Northern Ireland and beyond. Based at Global Point Business Park in Newtownabbey, the facility features two large engineering halls, clean rooms, laboratories, a café, meeting rooms, a 250-seat auditorium, breakout areas, individual offices and a gym. External EV charging stations have been installed to complement the ample parking, cycle stands, concourse and seating areas. As a landmark project for manufacturing in Northern Ireland, innovative construction techniques were adopted to ensure the building is fit for the future. Specialist construction, incorporating significant design technology, was used for the clean rooms. Henry Brothers also changed the reinforced-concrete floor designs from tied to fibre reinforced, resulting in a quicker turnaround time without compromising the strength or high-end finish of the product.
