of the many great and noble men who have thus labored, and we are not unmindful of our debt to their contributions to our wel fare and advancement. Knowledge in these other fields is not to be despised or shunned by the Christian. On the other hand, we must keep a right perspective. When we turn to God’s Word, we read that the true wisdom is “the fear [i.e., ‘reverential trust’] of the Lord.” “For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and under standing.” "He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous.” Thus we learn that God Himself is the Source. Our chief concern is to obtain His wisdom. Proverbs 1:7 de clares: "The fear of the Lord is the begin ning [Heb., ‘the principal thing ] of knowl edge." Proverbs 9:10 expresses still an other aspect: "The fear of the Lord is the beginning [Heb., ‘commencement,’ i.e., first in time] of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy is understanding." The Christian young person who humbly brings "into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ” (2 Cor. 10:5) is the one who can be described by the words of Proverbs 3:13: "Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding: For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.” Would that all Christians who claim to believe the Scriptures would order their lives and adjust their estimates of the best things according to this belief that God-given wis dom is more than wealth! Commencement! How eagerly every young person looks forward to “Com mencement Day”! Eleven-Year-Old asks, "Why do you call it ‘commencement’? It looks like the end to me.” But wiser Thirty-Years replies: “You'll know when you get there, because you’ll realize that to the wise, thoughtful student, it is really the commencement of hard study, of true learning, and full education.” Life itself is a school, and “experience" is the teacher, and the very best teacher of all: but, as has been said, "the school fees are heavy.” Many opportunities are now open to young graduates by which they can “learn after school days are over.” Under a li brary’s guidance, one may follow a scien tific, business, art, agricultural, nature, or professional reading codrse to much profit. Then there are night schools, correspon- I dence courses, lecture courses, or discussion groups. Last, but not least, there are Bible Institutes with both day and evening classes which offer the student the greatest of all wisdom, the personal knowledge of Him who is infinite in His wisdom and knowl edge.
