At OneWorld, we believe that everyone deserves access to the best health care possible. Through our work, we build healthier communities and empower our patients every day. Looking back on 2022, we are proud to see how our growth has positively impacted the communities we serve. With community support, our efforts allow us to continue to improve the health care we provide, grow our team and develop new systems and programs to support our patients beyond our clinic walls. What pushes us to grow is the impact. The work that we do now has a lasting effect on our community’s future. Access to care allows future generations to thrive and make a positive contribution to our society. Through excellent care and education, we build healthier environments and empower our patients. For OneWorld prenatal patients, the Baby Boutique is more than a room in the Women’s Health clinic. It’s an opportunity to shop for essential baby items without the stress and worry of cost. In 2022, the Baby Boutique had record numbers of both shoppers and baby essentials distributed. In response to the increase in need, OneWorld has expanded operating hours to include Fridays from 10a.m.-2p.m.
The boutique will continue to be open from 10a.m.-2p.m. on Mondays and 2-5p.m. on Thursdays. “The visible sense of relief on our patients’ faces as they shop was our motivation to expand our hours,” said Courtney Spurgeon, Development Manager - Events & Volunteers. “The cost of raising a child is only increasing, and we want our patient families to have a strong, healthy start.”
While onesies and outfits remain popular, more expecting and new moms are using their

Prenatal patients can earn a maximum of 30 Baby Bucks throughout the length of their pregnancy. On average, each item at the boutique costs one Baby Buck. With baby essentials as incentives, the Baby Boutique encourages new mothers to seek early and consistent prenatal care. Prenatal care decreases the likelihood of preterm births, birth defects and other harm to mothers and babies. “It’s been super busy and a challenge to keep inventory up, but we are so grateful to have the community’s support and be able to keep getting our tiniest patients and their moms what they need,” said Spurgeon.

“That was such a neat experience, and it stuck with me,” said Rudish. “There I was in the middle of the United States, yet I was taking care of women from around the world. I’m honored to provide care for such a diverse patient community and be a part of a team that is

pre- and post- menopausal care, the Women’s Health team provides affordable, comprehensive care to help women stay healthy throughout their lives.
At the Women’s Health clinic, located on the Livestock Exchange Health campus, patients can work with midwives, OB-GYNs and family medicine clinicians for their prenatal and postpartum care. “I went to OneWorld for my prenatal care for all three of my children,” said Cassie, OneWorld patient. “Everyone I worked with respected my decisions and listened to me. I really appreciated that everyone I worked with let me have a voice in my care plan.”

With over 90 years of combined experience, the OneWorld Midwifery team sees patients at the Women’s Health clinic and helps patients deliver their babies at Bergan Mercy hospital. “I received so much education during my pregnancy, and I was treated very well when I delivered my baby,” said Alieda, OneWorld patient. “After giving birth, Courtney Cowardin, CNM, Certified Nurse Midwife, connected me to OneWorld Pediatrician, Dr. Elizabeth Lehn, for my child’s care, and I still see her for my own care at the Women’s Health clinic. I am so thankful for everything OneWorld has done to help me and my child. They truly care for everyone.”

HEALTHY FOUNDATION OneWorld expands pediatric dental services with new Minecraft-inspired clinic
“We are focusing in pediatrics in this clinic because kids can’t really fend for themselves,” said Dr. Brian Penly, Dental Director. “They are where they are at through no fault of their own, but because of the situation they were born into, and oftentimes the lack of education the community has in relation to oral health.
By age five, nearly 60% of children have tooth decay. By age 17, that number jumps to nearly 80%, according to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. OneWorld’s new pediatric dental clinic is challenging these statistics by helping children in the Omaha metro area receive the dental care they need.

Through a partnership with Children’s Hospital, Dr. Burton also provides dental treatment under general anesthesia at Children’s Outpatient Surgical Center at Village Pointe for children with extensive treatment needs, special health care needs or behavioral needs that prevent the safe delivery of dental care in a traditional clinic setting. Combined with expertise, a comfortable environment and expanded services, the new OneWorld pediatric dental clinic is a step in the right direction to helping children in the Omaha community access high quality dental care. “We believe this clinic will really help our pediatric population become more knowledgeable and involved in their own oral health,” said Dr. Penly. “Access to this high quality care will not only set each patient up for a healthier future, but our community as a whole.”

GET TO KNOW DR. BURTON
Dr. Spencer Burton received his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Utah in 2003. He attended Creighton University’s School of Dentistry, earning his doctor of dental surgery degree in 2007. Prior to working at OneWorld, Dr. Burton worked in a private practice in Arizona and for the Indian Health Service. He also provided dental care for members of the Navajo Nation at the Tsehootsooi Medical Center. Dr. Burton started at OneWorld in 2012, serving as the Dental Director from 2013- 2015. After practicing general dentistry for 12 years, Dr. Burton entered the Pediatric Dental Residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, earning his certificate in 2021.

At the Mexican Consulate in Omaha, OneWorld offers free health screenings for anyone visiting the consulate, regardless of their documentation status.
Health screenings include:
• Blood pressure and vitals check • Blood sugar test • Nutrition education • Vision screening
OneWorld partners with other organizations to provide additional services including cholesterol screenings and sexually transmitted infections testing. Members of the OneWorld Outreach team also provide flu and Covid-19 vaccines, education about OneWorld’s services and other community resources to help visitors get the medical services they need to stay healthy.

Code Pink In early December 2022, a OneWorld patient entered the Women’s Health clinic at the Livestock Exchange Health campus for her prenatal appointment. The front desk staff noticed the expectant mother was uncomfortable and appeared to be in pain, so she was immediately taken to an exam room for evaluation. Within minutes a “Code Pink” was called; the mother was in labor. While Code Pinks are rare, many OneWorld health assistants, nurses and clinicians were there and quickly

responded. Together they provided assistance for the mother, who was quickly advancing in her labor, and were ready to help the baby if needed. Once emergency medical services arrived, the mother was quickly transferred to Nebraska Medicine and delivered her healthy baby shortly after. Both mother and baby recovered well and returned to OneWorld several days later for the newborn’s first appointment, much to the joy of the Code Pink team and OneWorld.
