 Contact with an infected person’s body wastes.

 Contact with germs left by an infected person on objects or food.

 Consumption of foods prepared by infected people with unclean hands.

 Consumption of certain shellfish (oysters, clams, mussels) if they contain the virus from sewage contaminated waters. Hepatitis A is NOT spread by sneezes or coughs. Hepatitis B What is Hepatitis B? Hepatitis B (HBV) is another infection caused by a virus and also causes swelling of the liver. How is this infection spread? The HBV virus is spread when the body fluids of an infected person (blood, semen, saliva, and others) enter another person’s blood through mucous membranes or breaks in the skin. Some examples of how the virus is spread are:

AIDS What is AIDS?

AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a serious disease that weakens the body’s ability to fight infection. AIDS is caused by the HIV (Human Immunodeficiency) virus. How do people get AIDS? People get AIDS by their actions. Most people who have AIDS get it by:

 Having sex with an infected person.

 Sharing drug needles with infected people.

 Health care workers accidentally stuck by needles used on an infected person. People DO NOT get AIDS from normal social contact with other people. A person cannot get AIDS from:
