4.14 Summary If you or your partner has a bleeding injury, follow these precautions:

 Touch the blood only with a clean cloth, terry cloth towel, or a handful of tissues (Kleenex).

 You may have to pour water on the wound or hold pressure on the bleeding point.

 Wash your hands as soon as possible with soapy, running water. Steps for cleaning up blood contaminated surfaces.

 Wear disposable latex or vinyl gloves.

 Wash the area with soap and water and/or a disinfectant cleaner.

 The surface must be thoroughly cleaned before disinfecting. Required contact time for the disinfectant (for hard non-porous surfaces at room temperature) is: o Over 1 minute for HIV-1. o Up to 10 minutes for other organisms (pseudomonacidal, staphylocidal, salmonellocidal, and some other virucidal). o Use disposable cleaning materials if possible.

Dispose of cleaning materials and gloves in a sealed plastic bag.

Remember to put a barrier or protective layer between you and the blood. You are trying to protect both you and your partner from each other’s germs. You will not only be an informed housecleaner and care giver, but you will also understand the common sense approach to a safe work environment

In Closing

As a MOLLY MAID employee, you are not expected, required, or permitted to engage in hazardous work activities. Standard cleaning practices prohibit high-risk activities. For your own protection, you do not have to deal with pests, vermin, soiled linen, body wastes, blood, pet droppings, etc. MOLLY MAID guidelines and procedures are designed to provide a safe and enjoyable work environment and peace of mind for all employees.
